Ticket On Sales: Tiger Army, Raconteurs, Girl Talk and more

barcelona08-07-12Can’t think of any good leads today. That “Hellboy II” looks pretty cool though, right? Let’s just get to the on-sale info…

There are huge bands out there like Coldplay, Linkin Park and Green Day who can sell out an amphitheater. They are in mainstream magazines and sell a lot of records. Then there are bands that may not sell a lot of records per say, but have such a rabid fan-base that they are able to sell out multiple nights at a single, mid-level size venue. For example: Social Distortion rarely goes gold but can sell out twenty nights at local House of Blues’. Or Rancid who just sold out half a dozen nights in LA and the OC. Or how about Bad Religion who recently played many weekend shows at the Orange County House of Blues. None of those bands are “giant sellers”, but their fan base is rabid enough that they’ll spend the money to see them twice or three times in a two week window.

  • You can now add Tiger Army to that list as they just added five headlining shows at the Grove of Anaheim. While I know that the band has a big O.C. fan base (most rockabilly bands seem to have a stronghold here), if you would have asked me yesterday “Brian, could Tiger Army sell out five nights at the Grove,” I would have looked to you skeptically (as I undressed you with my eyes). Now that I really think of it, though, they probably can. Frankly, if you’re going to book five nights in a 2,000+ seat venue, you better be sure you can sell it out. The dates of the shows are October 23, 24, 25, 26, and a spook-tacular holiday show on Halloween night (Oct. 31st for you non-pagans). Tickets are $22 and go on sale at 1pm on Saturday. There is a five night package which is also being sold through Ticketmaster and the band’s website.
  • For your listening pleasure, The Raconteurshave scheduled a second night at the Greek Theater with the Kills on September 23rd. Tickets are $40-$45 and are on sale Saturday at 10am.
  • As previously noted in my music news, mash up god and odds-on copyright infringement defendant Girl Talk (or as the IRS calls him Greg Gillis) will bring his “Support the Animals” tour to the Henry Fonda Theater on Oct. 24th and 25th. Tickets are $20 and go on sale Saturday at 10am.
  • Metal/keyboard pop-punkers Reggie & the Full Effect brings their final tour to the Avalon in Hollywood on August 26th. Not only is the bands new hardcore-ladden album “Last Stop: Crappy Town” a frickin’ masterpiece (and I will back that up), but this is a band you should see live before lead singer (and mastermind) James Dewees takes up a full time position playing keyboards for My Chemical Romance. Tickets are $14 and are on sale now.
  • Billy Idol takes up residency at the House of Blues- Sunset Strip for three nights in September. The rocker and Adam Sandler co-star will play the club on September 16th, 17th and 19th. Tickets are $53 and are on-sale Saturday at 10am.
  • Gangster rapper and currently, umm, family movie star Ice Cube sorry, Ice mother-fucking Cube will play the Grove of Anaheim on August 29th. Be sure to bring the kiddies especially when he brings out the old N.W.A. stuff. Tickets are $23 and go on sale Saturday at noon.
