Have you ever cheated on your girlfriend/boyfriend with a sexy piece of Detroit muscle? Do family and friends accuse you of having gasoline pumping through your veins instead of blood? When you look at a Toyota Prius do you get a eerie feeling? If so, stand tall and proud for you are a certified car nut and there’s only one place in LA for you to go and get your fill. Located at 6060 Wilshire Blvd, The Petersen Automotive Museum awaits.
Right now there are no less than 10 exhibits on display which will inspire all kinds of automotive lust. From Hotrods and original Hotwheels collectibles, to a Rolls Royce Phantom the size of a tank, to the Mach 5 and alternative fuel vehicles, the museum will set you on the right path to a memorabilia induced zen like state.

The three biggest featured exhibits on display are, Treasures of the Vault, From Autocamps to Airstreams, and The Art of Cars. Treasures gives you a look at the type of autos that the rich and elite park in their garage and never ever drive, EVER! Classic Jaguars, dual cockpit convertibles, and pristine Cadillacs give this collection the look and feel of high class.
Feel like taking a trip down America’s early days of camping, then the Airstreams exhibit is calling your name. From early 1930’s trailers and fold out sleeper bedrooms, to a aluminum camper made by a watch company, this nostalgic look down memory lane is both picturesqley informative and at the same time makes you fully appreciate today’s gas guzzling suv’s.

Lastly, The Art of Cars is a behind the scenes look at Pixars huge blockbuster Cars. From production design stills and automotive research, to Lightning Mcqueen himself, this entourage of all things automotive gives you a peek way beyond what the dvd special features offered you.
Don’t plan on rushing through the museum in a hurry. There’s a lot to see in the three massive floors which house everything. I’d say plan on spending at least two to three hours to be able to see it all. Think you’re getting away swag free? Not a chance. The gift shop is home to dvd’s, books, movies, posters, clothing, and all kinds of four wheeled goodies you didn’t even knew existed.
So while the gas prices may keep climbing, there’s still at least one place you can go for $10 that buys you a full tank of fun. For more info check out www.petersen.org .
