  • Los Angeles Firefighters stuck on mountain after flooding - Two dozen L.A. County firefighters are stuck on a mountain near Lake Isabella after overnight flash floods washed out roads near a massive brushfire they have been working on for two weeks, reports CBS news. The firefighters, who were working on the Pieute Mountain Fire, about 50 miles north of Lancaster will receive military field meals that will be flown in by helicopter. The Piute Fire is 46 percent contained, and about a third of the 1,500 firefighters and support personnel have come from Los Angeles and Orange counties and the Inland Empire.
  • Suspected burglar dies in police custody - The Los Angeles Times reports that a man described as a suspected burglar died in police custody. Officers arrived at a house in Long Beach after receiving report of a burglary to find the suspect injured from his struggle with neighbors, said Jackie Bezart, public information officer for the Long Beach police. It was not immediately clear what the cause of death was. A coroner’s investigator was looking into the cause. Shortly after paramedics left, the suspect stopped breathing in the back seat of the squad car, Bezart said. Officers performed CPR, but the man was pronounced dead by paramedics who returned at 10:10 p.m.
  • Crash leaves motorist dead in Van Nuys - A traffic accident that occurred on Chandle Boulevard at about 3:30 p.m. yesterday left Scott Michael Weiss, 32, of Sherman Oaks dead at the scene. Weiss was going east on Chandler Boulevard in a blue Audi before he struck a light pole and then a tree.
