The Warehouse feels something like walking into a Disney World hotel restaurant that’s been stuck in a time capsule for a few decades. It feels outdated, but you know that at one time, this was the place to be. The front walls are adorned with (mostly) old celebrity photographs. There are even photos of the cast of Meet the Fockers, who shot scenes here. Out front is a dock that wraps around a swampy looking pond, and out back, beyond the patio is the Marina Del Rey harbor. I went there one Saturday morning to try their famous all you can eat champagne brunch buffet which had come highly recommended, and was disappointed to discover that brunch is now only on Sundays, and that we would have to eat from the regular menu.
The menu still had enough variety to satisfy all of us, but their cocktail menu was the biggest attraction. To be honest, I ordered a Bloody Mary first, and had to send it back. It was that bad. But its replacement, a giant Mai Tai, was delicious. The Mojito was also a hit and the “Barrel of Rum,” which came in a small ceramic Warehouse souvenir Barrel, was lots of rum mixed with tropical juices.
I started with a jumbo shrimp cocktail, which was straightforward and tasty, and had the Island spinach salad, which came with caramelized Maui onion vinaigrette, crispy onions and goat cheese. My meal was light and tasty. Other dishes at the table included the Heirloom tomato mozzarella salad, which came with a roasted red pepper puree, basil, pine nuts and an olive tapenade. It looked a little drenched, too much dressing maybe, but tasted great, as did their New England clam chowder, which was thick and creamy with bits of bacon and potatoes. I didn’t taste the breakfast burrito but it got good reviews. I know I will go back to finally try that buffet, but as for the everyday menu, this place is better suited for before or after dinner cocktails with friends. If you get the chance though, do check it out, it’s a completely different experience than my usual LA brunch, and a fun place to take visitors for a memorable stop.
