I would find it hard for anyone visiting the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation to not agree with Mr. Weisman when he said, “I don’t think there is anything that communicates better than art. It is quicker than language and clearer than philosophy.”Frederick R. Weisman was an entrepreneur, philanthropist, and avid art enthusiast and collector. His belief in the power of art can be seen in his extensive collection featured in his old home in Beverly Hills.
The Weisman Art Foundation seeks to preserve his extensive collection of modern and contemporary art while making it available to the public. The estate, which was purchased in 1982 by Mr. Weisman, was to serve as a showcase for his personal collection. However, after his passing, the estate was turned into a museum catering to the public. Mr. Weisman always felt that “art was meant to be viewed” and this showcase certainly provides art critics with the opportunity to view Warhol, Lichtenstein, Haring, Rothko, and even Picasso.
More than 400 works of art are on display at the estate with a collection ranging through European Modernists, Surrealists, Abstract Expressionist, Pop Art, and even a couple Super Realist sculptures. The foundation is holding an event currently underway at the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University that runs until August 3rd. The foundation is also holding an upcoming exhibition at the Susquehanna Art Museum from October 2, 2008 until April 12, 2009.
The Weisman Foundation is a must see for any art enthusiast interested in seeing one of the finest private art collections on the West Coast, if not the world. Frederick R. Weisman’s passion for art and culture blossomed into one of the most valuable and breathtaking art collections of the 20th century. Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation Tour Information
