- Two old ladies found guilty for murder -Â 77-year-old Helen Golay and 75-year-old Olga Rutterschmidt were sentenced to life in prison today for murdering two indigent men, 73-year-old Paul Vados in 1999 and 50-year-old Kenneth McDavid in 2005, to collect insurance policies taken out on their lives. The women were convicted of a scheme in which they befriended homeless men, took out policies, and then killed them in murders staged to look like hit-and-run auto accidents. The women collected 2.8 million dollars before getting caught.
- UC Riverside teacher found murdered in his own home - Lindon Barrett, 46, professor at UC Riverside, was found murdered in his home in the 100 block of West 5th Street on Sunday. Neighbors reported a foul odor coming from one of the units and it appeared Barrett had been dead for several days. Investigators determined the victim’s vehicle was missing and started a search. They were able to connect Marlon Martinez, 20, of Long Beach, to the car and arrested him and booked into the Long Beach city jail on suspicion of murder.
- Man stabs wife to death - Westminster police and Orange County Fire Authority paramedics were dispatched to a residence in the 14000 block of Rondeau Street around 7 p.m. Monday after a man made a 911 call claiming he had just killed his wife, according to a Westminster Police Department statement. The woman had “dropped off the children in the morning, went to work, and then came back over to pick them up.” Officers and paramedics found the victim, who had been stabbed in the chest, non-responsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The couple’s children, ages 8 and 15, and their 12-year-old nephew and 19-year-old niece were in the house at the time of the murder. The motive for the killing is under investigation.
- 17 year-old shot near High School in LA - A 17-year-old boy was shot near Los Angeles High School at 2:47 p.m. near Olympic and Plymouth. Several juveniles were detained immediately after the shooting, but not other details are available at this time.
