birthdaycandlesME08-07-16Burt Ward born on July 6, 1945 turned 63 last Sunday. Born and raised in Los Angeles. He is best known for his role as Robin in the 1960s television series, Batman. His epithet, “Boy Wonder” comes from his amazing speed reading ability. His highest speed scored by the American Medical Society in Beverly, Hills; that is, was 30,000 words a minute with a comprehension level of 90%. He was featured in an article titled, “Will the Real Boy Wonder Please Stand Up.” It’s been a while since that article came out. Let’s hope Ward doesn’t get confused and stand up when people ask for the Real Slim Shady. Even in tights, this Boy Wonder probably couldn’t escape Eminem.

On Monday, July 7th, Ringo Starr turned 68. This Beatles Brit is one of two surviving legendary musicians. He’s kept on drummin’ all these years and avoided tabloid alimony hell compared to fellow survivor, Paul McCartney. When Access Hollywood asked what he wanted for his birthday he humbly replied saying only, “Just Peace and Love.” It’s been 41 years since Rolling Stones Magazine’s 362end greatest song of all time; “All You Need Is Love” was released on July 17th, 1967. Across the universe, Starr still wants everyone to come together right now and give all our loving.

Cut loose! Kevin Bacon turned fifty on last Tuesday [July 8th]. Although in Philadelphia he was born and raised he’s connected to Los Angeles by two very important degrees; his two children Travis and Sosie were born in L.A.

She’s the former First Lady of Grunge, a rocker mom and an on-again/off-again alcoholic. Her presence in Hollywood doesn’t seem to be needed anywhere and her music is, well, her music. Somehow though, in between Kurt Cobain, flashing Letterman and snorting cocaine; Courtney Love, the token Bad Girl turned 44 on July 9th

Jessica Simpson was worth waiting for as a newlywed especially when she busted [quite literally] out as Daisy Duke. Whether her alleged relationship with John Mayer is on-again or off-again, when Jessica Simpson turned 28 on July 10th, her body truly was a wonderland.

Lead guitarist of Bon Jovi. But who cares about that? Man who slept with not one but two 80’s bombshells and ended their friendship, respectively. More familiar now? Richie Sambora, age 49 as of July 11th is better known these days as the ex husband of Heather Locklear and for dating her former best friend/current enemy, Denise Richards.

July 12th celebrated the 71st birthday of Bill Cosby. Cosby was the creative mind and creator of the hit series The Cosby Show. For eight seasons the award winning show followed the lives of a fictional upper-middle class African-American family based on Cosby’s own family. The show portrayed a positive, non-stereotypical view of African Americans and is still in syndication today. His latest projects include political awareness and activism in furthering education in African American communities.

Cheech Marin born July 13th was born in Los Angeles. His comedy act as Cheech of Cheech & Chong put him on the map, a duo of songs about drugs, hippies and free love. Much of his later work includes provoking satires of Mexican-American/Chicanos.

Former President Gerald Ford’s birthday was this past Monday [July 14th], he would have been 94 years old. He took over when Tricky Richard Nixon got a little scandalous and like any good right-hand man, he pardoned him for his Watergate, err, mishap? We have to recall President Ford’s wife Betty, without whom we would not have the Betty Ford Center for alcohol and substance abuse.

And the birthday goes to, Forest Whitaker on July 15th. Whitaker holds the 2007 Academy Award title for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work in, “The Last King of Scotland.” Whitaker’s provoking reoccurring roles on “The Shield” and “ER” stem from his experiences growing up in South Central, Los Angeles.
