It’s way too hot to heat up the oven, but that shouldn’t keep you out of the kitchen. Many of these schools offer courses specifically on hot-weather cooking and grilling so there is no excuse for eating poorly over the summer.
HipCooks: This cooking school specializes in teaching the average singleton how to entertain and feed a group with classes like “My Big Fat Greek Cooking Class†and “Thai One On.†The Brewery (Downtown) location is impossibly cool, even if it is a bit difficult to locate at first. Classes are all $55 for a 3 hour class and end with a full meal and wine. Locations in West Los Angeles on Robertson and Downtown

The New School of Cooking: Located in Culver City, this school offers single classes and 4-part series, as well as an intensive twenty-week professional course. Each lesson starts with a discussion of the ingredients and recipes, and then individuals are paired up to each work on a singular dish. The instructors are very hands-on and approachable, but students can get frustrated if they don’t get the recipe they want. Classes end with a meal and wine.

Chefs Inc: This school looks like your mother’s kitchen – if she had eight fully equipped workstations. Founder Leslie McKenna is the former pastry chef at Valentino and now spends her time teaching several courses at Chefs Inc. This school offers recreational classes for the curious, intermediate courses for those looking for a challenge and a professional 24-class series. Kids Camp runs through the summer from 10am to 1pm.

They all sound great! The price on the Hip Cooks is really reasonable as well.
