- Man pulled out of lake after cardiac arrest - Divers found a man who jumped into a lake in the Willowbrook area without surfacing, but said when they pulled the man up, he was in full cardiac arrest. The man was found about an hour after searchers first began looking for him at Earvin “Magic” Johnson County Recreation. According to Fire Inspector Ron Haralson, the man was not breathing. The man was being transported to St. Francis Hospital.
- O.C. teen girl guilty of killing mother -Rachael Mullenix, now 19, faces 25 years to life in prison for the 2006 murder of her mother Barbara Mullinex, then 56, who was stabbed more than four dozen times, dumped in Newport Harbor and found with a knife still protruding from her eye. A sentencing date has not been set. Mullinex’s one-time boyfriend, Ian Allen, now 23, is waiting for his own trial. Mullinex said that Allen committed the murder and forced her to run away with him. She said Allen was mad at her mother because she threatened to have him arrested. After Barbara Mullinex’s body was found, Rachael and Ian were arrested two days later in Lafayette, La on their was to Florida.
- Body of missing hiker found - Authorities say a body recovered from the eastern Sierra Nevada, who has been identified at 44-year-old mountaineer Ric DeVan, a hiker who went missing early this month. DeVan was last seen during the Fourth of July holiday. Searchers found the body Wednesday in a mountain pass at an elevation of about 12,000 feet. A backpack that family members said belonged to DeVan was found about 400 feet downhill.
- Elderly person struck with car - A pedestrian in his 70s was killed early today when he was struck by a vehicle in Hawthorne around 1:20 a.m. in the 4100 block of West Imperial Highway. Authorities closed a section of the roadway while an investigation was conducted. The man’s name is being held until his relatives are notified.
