The California Department of Transportation says the problem began at 6 p.m. Wednesday with the report of a large pothole near the center divider north of Fair Oaks Avenue. But the hold spread across the left and center northbound lanes, and a full closure was ordered at 1:40 a.m. Thursday.
Crews continue to work filling in the hole. It is unclear when northbound lanes will reopen.
