New Website: Loudvine

If you’re looking for a site for info on L.A. bands and their gigs, you can’t do any better than Loudvine.com. Started by a group of people, who just like you, were looking for a one-stop source for all the concert information they wanted for the city.

Loudvine operates similarly to any other social networking site. You can create a profile with information about yourself and add friends and bands that you are a fan of. There are separate sections to search for fellow fans and to search for artists. On each profile, you can see a person’s or a band’s favorite genres and bands so that you can compare tastes and find something you might be interested in. Bands also have some of their songs and gig information.

Venues have their own section where they can list information about their location and upcoming gigs, as well as information about the music they typically offer.

What sets Loudvine apart from other social networking sites is its gigs section. Like any other concert listing site, Loudvine offers a list of upcoming gigs that can be sorted by date, genre, venue, or band name, but the new part is that you can network with other people who are attending the same show as you by adding the gig to your profile. This lets you find other people who have the same musical interests as you and maybe meet up at the show. You can also leave feedback on a particular show that you saw that other people or the band can read.

The site operators have a blog where they share their own thoughts on and review shows that they have been to. This often includes embedded YouTube videos of the shows, so you can really get a feel for a band’s show, rather than just listening to a song recorded in a studio.

With Loudvine, you can find shows not listed on other websites and find bands that no one has ever heard of, which has now become difficult on any of the larger, non-music-specific social networking sites.

Loudvine is still in Beta, so the site isn’t perfect yet. It is somewhat difficult to find shows, artists, and people that you are interested in because there is no filter function on searches. There are not many members or bands on the site at this point, either. Loudvine will surely grow in popularity, eliminating this issue. As things currently stand, Loudvine is a great resource for finding information about upcoming L.A. concerts in one place.
