American Dad, you say? As in, that show on Sunday nights after Family Guy? Yes! How can 4 million stoned college guys be wrong? After all, these are the same discerning viewers that tuned in regularly to both The Simpsons and Family Guy, making both shows pop culture phenomenons before anyone could say, “Doh!”. The fact that these same beer-guzzling, pizza-eating couch crusaders are now turning their attention to American Dad is making network executives and internet animation geeks alike realize what has been in front of their faces for 3 seasons. Um, dudes, American Dad is good. So good, in fact, that as of late, it has been trouncing The Simpsons and King of the Hill in the ratings and coming uncomfortably close to it’s mother ship, Family Guy.
Created by two former Family Guy writers, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman and, of course, Seth MacFarland (who also provides much of the vocal talent for the show), American Dad combines a colorful cast of characters with smart, zippy, irreverent dialougue. The plots are absurd, topical and highly entertaining, often culminating in situations that make even the most hardened South Park-watching bong-sucker exclaim, “What the F*#k?!” while watching. Which isn’t a bad thing. On the contrary, it’s a breath of fresh air that other networks are catching a whiff of. (Look for copies of this on other networks coming to a TV near you.)
The show centers around Stan Smith, a CIA agent and Republican Conservative to boot. His family includes hottie wife Francine, Liberal daughter Hayley, nerdy son Steve, an alcoholic alien from Area 51 named Roger and a talking fish named Klaus that has the brain of a German. Chaos ensues. Adventures galore. You get the idea. Super fun television viewing, people! American Dad isn’t going anywhere anytime soon so Tivo to your hearts content!
*American Dad is on Sunday nights at 9:30 on Fox after Family Guy.

I always watched this show and like I have said about 45 times Roger, the gay alien, is my favorite. And really how could you not LOVE a show that has a gay alien as a main character!
