Concerts On-Sale: Journey, The Hives, Hot Water Music and more

July 25th, 2008 Written by: Brian· No Comments

Unless your jonzing for a Journey and Heart fix (though, judging by their upcoming sold out gig in Irvine, you might be), or looking forward to a dose of Three 6 Mafia (who won an Oscar for their opus on the trails and tribulations of pimpin’), there isn’t much in store this week for big venue ticket on sale. Some decent club shows hit Ticketmaster this week, but if you like rock or indie bands playing the big places, this might be a weekend to check out Batman for the second or third time (see you there).

For those of you who might have stopped believing after not getting tickets to Journey’s sold out show at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, my advice is to start believing again, unless you never stopped believing, which meant that you didn’t stop believing at all. Regardless, the good news for you fans is that Journey (with new lead singer Arnel Pineda) has added a show at the Greek Theater on September 30th. Heart and Cheap Trick will open and tickets will set you back $55-$110 dollars and go on sale Saturday at 10am. Of course with service charges the price of those tickets won’t stop exceeding
 your budget

The Hives are hitting the states again, nd in typical Hives fashion their press release announcing their latest tour bleeds modesty. For example: “The Hives are returning to various raised platforms on which theatrical performances are given to bestow their sheer brilliance, incomparable riffs and rugged good looks in honor of the greatest stack of songs ever records, The Black and White Album.” The bands sheer brilliance will be on display for three local shows: one at the Grove of Anaheim on September 21st and then two more at the Mayan Theater on the 24th and 25th. Tickets for all shows are around $25 and go on sale Saturday at noon. The Eagles of Death Metal and The Willowz open so a good time should be had by all. Or, as the press release says “Women will weep. Men will rejoice. Children will dance. The Hives will rule.

The recently reunited Hot Water Music have announced some local shows. The band will headline the El Rey Theater (on sale Saturday at 10 a.m) on August 29th and the Glasshouse (on sale now) the following night . Tickets are $23 for the El Rey and $19 for the Glasshouse.

Academy Award winners Three 6 Mafia (take that Kate Winslet), come to town for a couple of shows. First they take over the House of Blues- Sunset Strip on September 3th and then the Grove Theater on the 5th. Tickets for both shows go on sale Saturday at 10am. Tickets are around $25 for each.

And now in non-paragraph form, I present the following:

  • Lindsey Buckingham on Sept. 19th at The Grove of Anaheim. Tickets are $35-$50 and go on sale Saturday at noon (also at UCLA’s Royce Hall on September 14th).
  • Motorhead on September 2nd at the House of Blues- Sunset Strip. Tickets are $25 and go on sale Saturday at 10am.
  • Mest on November 20th at the El Rey Theater. Tickets are $18 and go on sale Saturday at noon.
  • M83 on November 29th at the Fonda. Tickets are $22 and go on sale Saturday at 10am.
  • The Faint on August 6th at the Glasshouse. Tickets are $22 and go on sale Saturday at 10am.
