  • Two people critically burned in car accident - Two people are hospitalized with critical burn injuries after their rental truck overturned and caught fire. The accident shut down the 5 South and 10 East connector as rescue crews pulled them from the burning truck. Both have been taken to USC Medical Center and their condition is unknown.
  • Husband/Wife murder suicide reported - Police say a 67-year-old man and his wife were both found dead in their Perris home Monday victims of an apparent murder-suicide. Beverly Lorraine Jakubowicz, also 67, and her husband, Stanley R. Jakubowicz, were found dead at their home at 21856 Lake Matthews Drive about 4:45 a.m., according to the Riverside County Coroner’s office. Franchville said Stanley Jakubowicz called a dispatcher and said “that his wife needed medical attention and when we got there, they were both dead.”

  • Man killed after losing control of car - A 30-year-old Lancaster man died Sunday when he lost control of his car, which veered off a roadway in the Antelope Valley and overturned. The solo-vehicle crash occurred on Avenue N at 162 Street East in the unincorporated Wilsona Gardens area of the county at around 5:40 p.m. The man was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected and declared dead at the scene, he said. His name was not immediately released.
  • Man wanted in shooting of 16-year-old boy - Police are searching for a gunman who shot and killed a 16-year-old boy Saturday night on a Los Angeles street.  Police say Edward Satterstron, a student at John Francis Polytechnic High School in the San Fernando Valley, was walking with a friend not far from the school when he was confronted by a man wielding a gun around 9 p.m. Police said the man shot the boy several times in the chest. The teen staggered to a nearby Taco Bell, where he collapsed.
  • Ex-karate teacher charged with child molestation - Patrick Shawn Magnan, 51, was arrested Saturday and is being held on $1 million bail for 11 felony counts of alleged molestation and committing lewd acts on nearly a dozen young male students in his Westminster studio over a six year period. Magnan appeared Monday afternoon in a Westminster courtroom, but arraignment was postponed until Aug. 26, a court clerk said.The charges — which could bring a prison sentence of up to 90 years to life in prison — include sentencing enhancements for alleged lewd acts on multiple children and substantial sexual conduct with a child.
