LA Food Round-Up: Sustenance for Shopping

August 7th, 2008 Written by: Christianne· No Comments

I remember back in olden times when a trip to the mall was just that: a shopping trip to the mall. Cruise through the department stores, stop by the specialty shops and threaten violence against the guy on the hand lotion cart. But with the advent of lifestyle centers offering everything from movie theaters and sit-down restaurants to the more traditional specialty shops and boutiques, a trip to the mall is not a simple outing. It is work and work requires sustenance, which is why we’ve created this multi-part series devoted to the best mall eats in town.

White collars all over the Westside will tell you that the “dining terrace” at Westfield Century City dances on the grave on any other food court around. Real china, real flatware, it’s like your house – only you don’t have to do the dishes. For those of you not quite yet in the know, Century City is also the home to Cheesecake Factory’s newest concept, Rock Sugar. Part Asian fusion, part singles scene for the working set, this restaurant is closer in resemblance to a Vegas casino than its casual-dining parent. The menu is a series of smaller sized plates meant to be shared. While you could skip the Princess shrimp without missing anything, the ahi and salmon wraps are very fresh and clean-tasting. Weekday lunch reservations are a must considering the overabundance of office buildings surrounding the property, but bar seats are finder’s keepers.
