Music Interview: Flosstradamus

August 7th, 2008 Written by: Seraphina· No Comments

Do you ever wish your new favorite songs always stayed new and fresh? Isn’t it a shame when you know a track is a great song but you’re just sick of hearing it on the radio or having your roommate playing it over and over again? Well, thank god for DJs who can take a different spin on the everyday popular songs as they hype them back up. By remixing and putting those mad beats into those tracks you love oh so much, DJs, like Flosstradamus, pump it up and create a dance party anywhere they go.

Flosstradamus, or Floss - as many fans like to call them - is the duo bringing you remixes like “Overnight Star” with Twista and Kanye West as well as “CYOA” with M.I.A.’s infamous voice haunting us on top of a pulsating rhythm. This duo is comprised of the young mastermind DJs, J2K (Josh Young) and Autobot (Curt Cameruci). J2K and Autobot have played numerous festivals and have yet to disappoint audiences. In just the last year, they were able to tour with popular electronica/funk duo, Chromeo, on the Fancy Footwork Tour. They also had the chance to release a remix album through Vice Records as part of Toyota’s Scion “CD Sampler” series. Catch a show of theirs and you’re bound to see a special guest such as Kid Sister, A-TRAK, or Diplo, - all whom are the most up and coming DJs and rap artists of this generation.

Fortunately, for anyone who likes a dope beat, this mind-blowing duo is coming to the city of angels THIS SATURDAY, August 9th. They play the beloved Echoplex at 9:00 PM, so make sure to get your tickets and reserve the chance to dance your ass off until you’re covered in sweat. Mixing the best R&B music there is out there, the show is only expected to be off the hook.

We were able to ask J2K a few questions about his DJ experiences and what he’s looking forward to when Floss arrives in LA. Short but sweet - like their nickname, check out the quick chat we had with him.

How did the both of you meet?

We’d both been playing parties around the city and a mutual friend who I was living with at the time introduced us. We started hanging out and putting together some mixes and within a week, we made “Overnight Star.”

You mix incredibly popular artists. Which song/remix is your favorite to play?

Alice DJ - “Better Off Alone,” until infinity… Oh, and I still can’t stop playing Lil’ Wayne - “A Millie.” That song is insane!

You’ve played an impressive amount of festivals. Tell us about your most memorable festival moment.

Well, last year at Lollapalooza, we had the best show of our lives. We played on a tiny stage, where a band before us had about 50 people watching. We started setting up and within 20 minutes there we were about 300 kids standing there getting stoked. By the time were half way through the set, there were 3,000 people. That was pretty amazing! This year’s Lollapalooza set wasn’t half bad either.

What are you looking forward to most when you play in LA?

We love playing at The Echoplex. Last year, we played there on the Chromeo tour and it was easily our favorite show in LA. So, we’re really looking forward to going back and playing that stage. Also, we have lots of DJ friends there like Staccato, Dan O., Them Jeans, Blu Jemz, and others who we’re looking forward to hanging out with and talking about mp3s, seratos, hard drives, and trance anthems like we always do. Last but not least, the party-goers! They’re amazing!
