Manny Ramirez has been on a tear since coming to the Dodgers. Â He is hitting .565, with four homers, nine RBIs and seven runs scored. Â He hit his fourth home run in six games with the Dodgers and since acquiring Manny at the trade deadline the Dodgers have gone 3-3. Â Still not where the Dodgers would like to be, but at least their offense is consistently scoring runs at around five runs per game in the six games since Manny has joined the team.
The Dodgers started a six game road trip with a series against the Cardinals on Tuesday. Â they started the series bad losing the first two games 4-6 and 6-9. Â They were in danger of being swept Thursday, bu luckily Kershaw, the young Dodger pitcher, saved the day and pitched a gem. Â The Dodgers won 4-1 behind Kershaw’s seven strong innings (7IP, 3H, 1ER) and Manny homered once again to lead the Dodgers to the win.
The Dodgers will now be on their way to San Francisco to start a three game set against the Giants. Â Brad Penny is scheduled to make the start today, followed by Kuroda and Billingsley. Â Brad Penny will be coming off the disabled list and will be making his first start since June 14. Â Penny will be in search of his sixth win of the season and the Dodgers must be hopeful that he can provide them with just the arm they need down the stretch. Â The opposing pitcher tonight will be Barry Zito who has stunk it up since signing his blockbuster deal with the Giants two seasons ago. Â Zito is 6-13 on the season, he has been pitching great as of late, but the Dodgers should be able to mount something against the struggling lefty.
After the series against the Giants the Dodgers start a 10 game home stand against some tough playoff contending teams. Â First the hard hitting Ryan Howard and the ,NL East leading, Phillies come to L.A. for a four game set. Followed by the young and chasing a playoff spot Milwaukee Brewers. Â The last series will be against NL West division rival Colorado Rockies for three games.
Two big series against two big clubs. Â Though it probably won’t decide the outcome of the season, the series against the Phillies and Brewers will show if the Dodgers have what it takes to stand with the big guys of the National League.
