Who will McCain and Obama choose for their running mates? It seems like each side has contenders that may hurt them more than help them and the challenge begins of who will make a better vice president. Conservative evangelicals, have a history of animosity toward McCain, and have urged McCain to choose Huckabee, a longtime pastor and former Arkansas governor with solid antiabortion credentials. For Obama, one key question is how to pick a running mate to make up for his lack of foreign policy experience. Some have talked about Georgia Sen. Nunn, a military expert, who is suspect among gay rights activists, because in Congress he opposed measures to expand gay rights. Choices, choices…
- The College Board, which owns the PSAT, ACT, and SAT, wants to start testing students as early as the 8th grade in order to prepare them for college. Some think that students need to spend more time learning and less time being tested especially at such a young age. Others think the eariler the better. What do you think?
- Protecting the wetlands by wrapping it up in a blanket… literally. Scientists at the state’s Department of Fish and Game say a 200-foot-long tarp over the wetlands was necessary to kill off nonnative vegetation and create an open area to transplant the endangered, yellow-flowered milk vetch. Conservationists complain that the covering is killing frogs, squirrels, wetland mice and other plants and animals.On Thursday they appealed to the California Coastal Commission to halt the eradication project and to order the tarp’s removal, later that day. Vandals attempted to remove the covering, so patrols around the Culver Boulevard site have been set up.
- Celebs and politics - Clooney back Obama in one of the all time swankiest fundraisers yet where for $1,000 bucks you get to hear Clooney will give a speech about Obama and dinner! Meanwhile, McCain has been getting some heat from Paris Hilton for his ad blatantly insulting them. Seems like celebs vote for Obama, or at least they hot ones.
- More heat for the fast food calories on the menu - Their new argument that people will reserve calories and then over-indulge later. I say, give people the f-ing facts and let them do what they want with them! They’re coming up with reason after reason to keep the facts from the people. Yes some people may not now how to count calories, but I bet they’ll learn damn fast. And if they don’t want them, then don’t read them. Or for god sakes people, learn a little self-control!
