August 11th - It’s the eye of the tiger: WWC and WWF champion Hulk Hogan’s birthday is today, August 11th. After his delightfully entertaining show, Hogan Knows Best ended, his wife, Linda filed for divorce after 24 years of marriage. His son Nick did jail time for an car accident in August 2007. The crash put passenger John Graziano in a nursing home for life. Then Brooke, his daughter temporarily cut off all ties from him. She also made a comment that women were too hormonal to be in politics. The Hulkster’s had a really bad year. May this upcoming birthday be a mark of better times.
August 12th - The perpetually tanned George Hamilton celebrates his birthday on August 12th. His first role was Robert in Crime and Punishment. He’s endorsed snack-y foods such as Ritz Cracker and Wheat Thins Toasted Chips. He also participated in season two of Dancing With the Stars, but he was toasted off early on.
August 13th - Annie got her birthday on August 13th. She made it to the big time when she joined Buffalo Bill’s Wild West show as a sharpshooter. Her life was made into a Broadway hit with Annie Get Your Gun. She supported the role of women in armed forces. She’s a legendary western star who can fire a .22 caliber better than you…anything you can do she can do better!
August 14th - Magic Johnson’s basketball career includes five NBA championships and three Most Valuable Player awards. His work since then has truly made an impact on the world abound. After announcing his HIV+ diagnosis in 1991 he retired from basketball and began his HIV/AIDS activism and safe sex advocacy. His career is successful both on and off the court, he is still adored as one of the greatest players of all time and his philanthropy work has changed the attitude of many regarding HIV/AIDS discrimination.
August 15th - All-American boy Ben Affleck is an undercover nerd. He stars in blockbusting movies [Pearl Harbor, Shakespeare in Love, Good Will Hunting] and is married with children to the beautiful Jennifer Gardner. Well, children-to-be, as baby No.2 is due in November. He’s famously dated Jennifer Lopez and Gwyneth Paltrow. He has also [with the exception of Clerks] starred in all of Canadian director Kevin Smith’s View Askew productions. He also owns a vintage Pac Man and is afraid of flying. Doesn’t that nerdiness make him that much cuter?
August 16th - The Queen of Pop turns 50 this week and her blonde ambition has yet to fade. Madonna is still releasing new work and carrying her own next to Justin Timberlake in the music video for 4 Minutes. Her album Hard Candy dropped in April of this year. Her Sweet & Sticky world tour begins this month. As for her marriage to Guy, if it doesn’t work out she can always move into the gym that’s basically the size of her mansion and right next door.
August 17th - Mae West is one of Hollywood’s original sex symbols. Yes, there was sex in Hollywood waay before Marilyn Monroe! West starred next to Cary Grant in She Done Him Wrong which was one of his first major roles and again in I’m No Angel. West was often scrutinized for her double entendres, sexual puns and not-so-subtle innuendos. Her scripts were often edited and censored for content. When Mae’s good, she’s good; but when she’s bad, she’s better. Who can blame her?
