I”ll be honest here. I have been pretty bored with music recently. I find myself rummaging through my cd case, settling on the “old faithfuls” (we all have them) rather than any of my new additions. As unreliable as the radio is and always has been, the extent to which it has taken my boredom these days has been extreme to say the least. And who knows, maybe I’m just not looking in the right place. But really, should good music be so far tucked away that it takes the impossible to discover it, anyway? Oh well, whatever. What I’m getting to is a neat little band called Silent Treatment. And while I wouldn’t go as far as saying they are going to revolutionize the radio, I will say they will be a welcome addition to what may otherwise be a very sad lineup.
Their recent self titled release is enjoyable. You wont be bored, you might just be moved, and at the very least you’ll get to say you were one of the first to hear this up and coming band. Touring a ferocious string of venues along the west coast, Silent Treatment can most distinctly be characterized by the growth their music has seen within the last few years. Its clear that these guys are dead set on making it big, and I have a feeling they are on their way. Their soulful jams set them apart from the dubious characters generally coupled with mainstream popularity, and yet I still get this vibe that they would work very well on the radio. They are exciting, the album is fluid, and hey, they’re good looking.
For any weary folks, just go ahead and check out their myspace. Not only do they have a few tracks from this new album, but they also have some older, more raw tracks. You can experience their evolution, some of their live show excitement, and get a taste of what the fellas are dishing out these days. My personal faves are Fear, and the live version of Love Me Two Times. Tracks with two totally different feels, you get an idea of the range these guys are working with and its impressive.
Basically, I’m pretty excited to see these guys live at The Cat Club (Saturday, August 16). And while I wouldn’t consider them on route to old faithful status, I will admit that they fit very comfortably into a little pocket of my musical heart. Not necessarily for everyday, but for those moments when I feel like I need a mental kick in the ass, or a good jump start for a night of partying like a rock star. You know what I mean.

Well said. I enjoy this band quite a bit and really think that ‘Steal the Sun’ is the star of their current catalog of songs.
A very refreshing sound; I agree that Silent Treatment stands out.

I’ve heard Silent Treatment live a handful of times- when they play their Nor Cal circuit, and every time I’m impressed by their growth as musicians and performers- which we all know are two different things; by their rapidly expanding fan base, and by just how passionate and relentless they are. With that kind of drive success is inevitable and well deserved.

[...] The energy, dedication, and passion that radiated from their album (that I had the pleasure of reviewing last week) was so heavily reflected in their live show that it blew my mind times ten. I think what [...]
