Finally, Heath Ledger’s final film, Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus (try saying that after a whiskey sour) is having trouble finding a U.S. distributor because of Gilliam’s somewhat Grimm box office record. Come on, take a chance on this one! You had me at Heath!- Speaking of the Half-Blood Prince, the new Harry Potter movie has been unceremoniously shoved out of its 2008 release date. Instead of a November release this year, the movie is now scheduled for summer 2009. Warner Bros. doesn’t even have a reason like being behind — no, they just want to cash in as much as possible to make up whatever they lost during the writer’s strike. Even though I don’t care about this movie, that’s kind of irritating. I’m glad I don’t have to explain this to my kids
- Tropic Thunder finally managed to knock The Dark Knight out of 1st place at the box office, bringing in $26 million this weekend. Somehow, I don’t think the studio is sweating it with the Batman pic now second to only Titanic in grosses. Star Wars: The Clone Wars debuted at Number 3 with $15.5 million.
- Manager-producer Joan Hyler is in critical condition as of Sunday after being struck by a car on PCH Friday night. Hyler’s clients include Diane Lane, Alfred Molina and Bruce Vilanch. Has anyone found out Shia LaBeouf’s whereabouts on Friday? Just saying..
- According to an unsubstantiated interview with Robert “Freddy Krueger” Englund, Billy Bob Thornton may be trading in his sling blade for a set of scary gloves and playing Kruger in the upcoming Michael Bay-produced Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Now if they can only get blank for the Jamie Lee Curtis role, we’d be all set.
- Taking a break from popcorn fare like RENT and Harry Potter and The Chamber of Money, Chris Columbus has acquired the rights to Thurston Clarke’s book “The Last Campaign: Robert F. Kennedy and 82 Days That Inspired America.” If only RFK had had one of those invisibility cloaks…
