My mother didn’t allow us to answer the telephone at the dinner table, and I imagine that yours didn’t either. We never ate at the mall food court unless it was a necessity - Mom thought it was all junk food. Now imagine her horror if each family member had his or her own computer - complete with touch screen - at every place setting. At the mall. I want to say that uWink is slowing killing the American family dinner and I would - if only the food wasn’t so darn tasty.
Nestled above family dining Mecca Maggiano’s at the Promenade in Woodland Hills, uWink has all but eliminated the need for waitstaff. There are several touch screens at each table, and diners need only tap on the screen to see photos of the menu items. Food options range from salads and sandwiches to more substantial entrees like steak and chicken breast. I’m particularly fond of the burger option as it allows you to hit the screen the most times. Diners can customize their burgers with a variety of toppings - kind of like a supped up version of The Counter’s clipboard. After ordering, diners can play any number of trivia or video games; challenge each other or other tables.
Gamers obviously like this place, and non-gamers will be fascinated by the novelty of it all. I imagine it is perfect for first dates since you can look at your date and check them out, without actually having to talk to them. So much more polite than checking your Blackberry at the table.

I went there on a pseudo-date once, after having downed one too many kamikazes at the Yankee Doodle’s around the corner. I was so buzzed that it felt like were were in George-Jetson-Land. I’ll bet it’s even better when sober.
