Today we’re going to break format on the TV Picks Column. Why? Because the last few days have been so chock full of repeats that viewers are undoubtedly dying for something new, and tonight will deliver with five series premieres!
That’s right; Thursday August 21st gives us the chance to start five new TV obsessions. Granted, every single one is a reality program (as if we didn’t have enough of those) so you won’t get the usual TV pick categories. In case you’re wondering, the Olympics are on at the same time they always are with Usain Bolt going for the gold in the 200M. “Burn Notice” is new on USA at 10:00, and the best free movie is “Superman II” at 8:00 on ION.
Now on with the brand new series!
Ever wonder what happened to those kids after your whole class showered “Ooooos” and “Aaaawwwws” upon them when they were summoned over the loudspeaker by the Principal’s Secretary? Well now’s your chance! Tonight at 9:00 on TruTV catch the first two episodes of “The Principal’s Office” where you can hear students make up excuses for bad behavior and The Principal doles out the discipline.
A&E has a show about the last group of law enforcement officers to be represented by reality television tonight at 10:00. It’s the first two episodes of “Jacked: Auto Theft Task Force”. The series follows a group of officers known as “The Wolf Pack” as they track down car thieves using special SUVs fast enough to keep up with any sports car and durable enough to ram a pickup truck.
Vivica A. Fox is really above a reality series which she proved in “Kill Bill” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm” but that hasn’t stopped her from debuting “Glam God with Vivica A. Fox” at 10:00 on VH1. In this new competition series twelve stylists compete for agency representation and the chance to do a celebrity spread in “Us Magazine”. The champion of style also get $100,000 richer. These are much better prizes than “American Idol”.
Fans of carnage will delight in the new Discovery Channel series “Destroyed in Seconds” debuting tonight at 9:00. This is a very self-explanatory series with people escaping tornadoes, crashing planes and disintegrating bridges. Righteous.
Just when you thought Bravo couldn’t become any more obsessed with personal appearance they unveil another show set in a salon. This one has a twist with Tabatha Coffey of “Shear Genius” helping struggling salons attract new heads to cut on “Tabatha’s Salon Takeover”. It’s kind of like “Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares” except it’s a good thing when the host finds air. Catch it tonight at 10:00.
Check back Monday for a more traditional look at the night in TV.
