LA Food Round-Up: Sustenance for Shopping, part 4

August 28th, 2008 Written by: Christianne· No Comments

I’m a frequent visitor to Main Street: Clever is an adorable store full of fun toys I never knew I needed, Varga is my go-to shop for inexpensive sunglasses and Monday trivia nights at Finn McCool’s are always good for a laugh. While walking along Main the other night doing a little shopping (mostly of the window variety) I found a new shop in the base of the relatively-new Archstone apartments just south of Pico.

The chalkboard sign advertising Goudas & Vines asked passerbys to stop in while they prepped for their grand opening, currently scheduled for September 13. While the store is still very much undergoing preparations for the opening, the cold fridge is stocked with a variety of sparkling wines (beer hasn’t been delivered yet), and the shelves partially-stocked with oils and vinegars. Wine racks carve out a small sitting area where customers can order a sandwich or have a glass, and the remainder of the space is set aside for retail. The cashier lamented the absence of bread for sale, but did point out that daily deliveries should begin soon - and the gelato is ready for sale!

More importantly, wine tastings begin tonight and run from 7pm to 10pm. For approximately $20 (my source - the cashier - wasn’t positive on the price) customers can taste a few different wines (3? 4? Again, my source was a bit unsure) as well as sample cheeses and charcuterie from the shop’s selection. Considering the reviews on Citysearch for the former Montrose location, it sounds like these people know what they’re doing.

But if it really sucks - you can always go shopping.
