Born to be Hollywood - Buddy Holly, Rose Mcgowan, Charlie Sheen…

September 2nd, 2008 Written by: Allison Kent· 1 Comment

Gloria Estefan [September 1] is one smooth crooner, this Cuban-American singer has won five Grammy awards and is considered one of the greatest crossovers in the music business. Her movie debut in 1999 brought her music to the teenybop generation when she did a duet for the movie with NSYNC, singing “Music of the Heart.” She is scheduled to receive the Latin Grammy Recording Association’s “Person of the Year” award this coming November.

Salma Hayek [September 2] is a new mom and a beautifully talented actress. Mexican native, this Hollywood talent had wanted to bring artist Frieda Kahlo to the big screen since she first showed up in LA, after starring in Frieda, Hayek’s talent could not be ignored. Frieda was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Actress. Hayek is the first Latina to carry the nomination. These days Hayek is enjoying motherhood with her baby [whose one year birthday is this month too!], Valentina Paloma.

Charlie Sheen [September 3] may be a bad boy whose bedded over five thousand babes but he’s an excellent comedian on Two and a Half Men. Despite his complicated divorce and custody battle you have to at least appreciate his cute sketch as a womanizing uncle whose parenting skills are off target but well-intended.

Damon Wayans [September 4] might follow Sheen on the birthday lineup this but this funnyman’s style is entirely different. Wayans was born in New York and raised in the projects, he showed up in LA with his brother and did stand-up comedy until he scored a regular slot for one season on Saturday Night Live [SNL]. Wayans made his claim to fame when he starred on In Living Color in 1990. Wayans recently ended his four year sitcom, My Wife and Kids and has several upcoming projects in post-production.

Rose Mcgowan [September 5] famously dated Marilyn Manson and wore [or rather, didn't wear] an entirely see through dress with a thong on the red carpet. While her fashion choices and love life may be poorly executed she’s established herself as an action horror sci-fi femme fatal. After her role replacing feisty Shannon Dorhety on Charmed she starred in Grindhouse and will soon appear in the sequel.

You might be a redneck if you knew that Jeff Foxworthy’s birthday is September 6th. This Comedy Central poster boy plays up his southern living experiences into his comedy sketches. He is currently the host of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?

A posthumous birthday shout out to Buddy Holly: Sadly his birth [September 7th] may not be quite as memorable as his death, as it went down in history as the day the music died. Alongside Ritchie Valens [La Bamba, Donna], Buddy Holly was killed in a plane crash Feburary 3, 1959. The song “American Pie” was written about him and the others involved in the crash. Holly’s career and life was short but his work is considered one of the most creative influential forces in rock ‘n’ roll.

You spelled Frida wrong. There’s no ‘e’.
