September 3rd, 2008 Written by: Andrew· No Comments

Labor Day has come and gone and the fall premieres are set to begin, making this the last week for the Summer TV Picks. Enjoy.

Reality Rundown

  • The CW whips out its second two-hour premiere in as many days as “America’s Next Top Model” returns at 8:00. Watch the skinny people as bitter ex-super models point out their flaws.
  • Get one last dose of “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Dallas Cowboys” before the NFL season kicks off this week. Ahhh, the return of NFL football and new TV, fall is so great! The HBO doc continues at 10:00.

News & Docs

  • After the one-week pat on the back that was the Democratic National Convention we now get the potentially scandal-ridden Republican National Convention all week on all networks. You can catch it live at 7:00 or taped at 10:00 or follow along in real time, all the time, on C-SPAN.
  • If the network coverage isn’t enough, or you just hate Republicans so much that you want to see them blasted at any chance you can get, you can always catch the Democrat’s response to the evening on “Larry King Live”. It’s as good as the last letter of its title tonight at 9:00 on CNN.

Scripted Bliss

  • “Bones” is probably the most underrated show on television. It’s mysteries are a little formulaic but the chemistry of its leads delight like nothing seen on television since Mulder and Scully. Tonight at 8:00 Fox treats fans to a 2-hour season premiere where the gang heads over to London.
  • This year, FX became the first basic cable network to get an Emmy nomination for Best Drama Series. Tonight, it adds a new show to its roster with the series premiere of the biker drama “Sons of Anarchy”. This series deals with the titular motorcycle club who a member of the so-called one-percenters, meaning they’re into crime as well as the open road. Get on board at 10:00.

Free Movie of the Night

  • In the spirit of Election Season, Turner Classic Movies is packing a double shot of political classics. First at 7:15 see Robert Redford as “The Candidate” where his no-bull campaign has him on the track for the Senate. Then at 9:15 see Henry Fonda in Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man” as he plays one of a number of contenders for his party’s presidential nomination.

Check back every day for your guide through the summer TV jungle.
