Music Editorial: Jonas Brothers at # 1

September 4th, 2008 Written by: Allison Kent· No Comments

This week on Billboard’s Hot 100 the Jonas Brothers hold the number one spot with their song, “A Little Bit Longer.” This song is from their third album, A Little Bit Longer [2008]. Their previous albums are It’s About Time [2006] and Jonas Brothers [2007].  Jonas Brothers got our attention but it wasn’t quite IT. The third album was the charm, as this time around the bros are off the charts and the object of teenage girls’ swooning across the nation. The Brothers are all Evangelical Christians, were home schooled by their mom and all of them wear purity rings. Sorry, groupies, they’re worth waiting for!

‘A Little Bit Longer’ was written by Nick Jonas about his experience with diabetes. The song depicts being told to wait longer at a doctor’s office for a diagnosis. He refers to high and low blood sugars in the chorus and that he’s still waiting on a cure.

Diabetes is a chronic illness where the pancreas makes little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone in the endocrine system necessary for managing blood glucose [sugar]. Without an insulin therapy regime people with diabetes cannot live. With the proper care and good management diabetics live long and healthy lives just like ‘normal’ people. They have good days and bad days too. I should know! I’ve been a Type 1 Diabetic [Juvinile] for 17 years now. I wouldn’t say that I’m sitting around waiting for a cure or that I’m waiting to die and go to Heaven [as Nick writes, 'kingdom come'] so I can avoid my highs and lows. I try to put it in this perspective: insulin is a hormone, so all those highs and lows from too much or too little insulin is just a hormone imbalance and EVERYBODY has that.

Nick Jonas hasn’t been a diabetic for that long, but as you get used to it, it gets easier to deal with; trust me, I’m a veteran.  This song is touching and certainly gives the gals a high blood sugar.

A Little Bit Longer - Jonas Brothers

Got the news today
Doctor said I had to stay
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine

When I thought it all been done
When I thought it all been said
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine

But you don’t know what you got ’till it’s gone
And you don’t know what it’s like to feel so low
And everytime you smile, you laugh, you glow
You don’t even know, know, know
You don’t even know

All this time goes by, still no reason why
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine
Waitin’ on a cure, but none of them are sure
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine
Yeah! Oh! Yeah! Ohh! Yeah yeah!
You don’t even know, oh!

So I’ll wait ’till kingdom come
All the highs and lows are gone
A little bit longer and I’ll be fine
I’ll be fine
