Labor Day has come and gone and the fall premieres are set to begin, making this the last week for the Summer TV Picks. Enjoy.
Reality Rundown
- The meanest Brit on television is back. No, it’s not Simon Cowell, it’s Gordon Ramsay of “Hell’s Kitchen”. Fox brings him back tonight for a two-hour premiere of the second season of “Kitchen Nightmares”. On this show, Ramsay rehabs a restaurant in a state of disrepair each episode. He also swears. A lot.
- “House Hunters” is one of the most enjoyable watches in all of reality TV. Tonight it’s all new at 10:00 on HGTV where a prospective buyer looks for a casa closer to her mother. Better than that is the repeat to follow where a SCUBA fanatic looks for a house on the Honduran island of Roatan. Prepare to drool over real estate.
News & Docs
- Isn’t Kate Hudson way too young for an “E! True Hollywood Story”? Apparently not, because that network is telling her tale tonight at 9:00. Maybe they’ll get to the bottom of why such a beautiful and talented actress is appearing in a movie opposite Dane Cook.
- It’s a murder’s row of speakers tonight at the Republican National Convention with Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, Mick Huckabee and VP nominee Sarah Palin all scheduled to hit the stage. It’s live at 7:00 on all networks or on tape at 10:00.
Scripted Bliss
- In case you missed it, and based on the measly 5 million viewers a lot people probably did, The CW is re-airing its two-hour “90210” series premiere at 8:00. I don’t recommend it because of the quality of the show (it was terrible) but because if it doesn’t succeed then The CW will most likely fold at the end of the season. So save the network!
- It’s a first for Showtime tonight as they give the first hour-long cable special to a man of Indian descent. It’s “Russell Peters: Red, White, and Brown” on the cable network at 10:00. Not technically a scripted series, but funny as any sitcom.
Free Movie of the Night
- There are a lot of good movies on free TV tonight, so why limit ourselves to just one? At 8:00 on FX it’s “Batman Begins”, at 8:00 on Ion it’s “Blade Runner” and at 9:00 on TBS it’s the underrated remake of “The Bad News Bears”. Take your pick, because I can’t decide.
That’ll do it for the Summer TV Picks as real TV returns tomorrow. Catch my Fall TV Preview next Monday and Tuesday to find out what to watch once real TV returns.
