Concert On Sales: Metallica, MGMT, Jay-Z and more.

September 5th, 2008 Written by: Brian· No Comments

All right, while I’m not really a fan I’m excited that I finally get a chance to use some bold face font:

METALLICA IS COMING TO TOWN!

There, I’m sure that bold print Times New Roman font will get the fans revved. Metallica is getting ready to release their new album “Death Magnetic” on September 12th, and the band will take their rock show on the road for a full arena  tour which makes its Los Angeles area stops in mid-December. The band plays the brand new Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario on December 12th and the Forum in Inglewood on December 17th and 18th. Lamb of God and The Sword will open the shows. Tickets for the Forum are $62.50-$82.50 and $57.50-$77.50 for Ontario.

Look, while I would rather listen to about a thousand bands before barreling through “Ride The Lightning” (these bands include, but are not limited to: Aqua, The Bloodhound Gang and Dragonforce) I know I’m in the vast minority and Metallica could drink herbal tea on stage for 90 minutes and still pack them in. What I’m saying is that these shows will be massive. Tickets for all three shows go on sale Saturday at 10 and should be gone before the clock strikes 11 (I’ll put an asterisk on the Ontario show since it’s kinda far). As the Forum dates are the final for the tour I am interested to see if another one or two shows get added before the tour “Fades To Black” (see what I did!!!).

  • I mentioned Wednesday in my Music News article that the Hollywood Palladium is reopening with a slew of great shows featuring bands like Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Flogging Molly, Dragonforce and Of Montreal. While all those rule, the one show that seems to be capturing the imagination of the LA music public is Jay-Z who is headlining the venue on October 15th, which happens to be the night that the venue re-opens. Tickets for Hova go on sale today at noon and should be gone by the time I end…this…sentence.
  • Scars on Broadway, a.k.a the System of a Down side project without all the screaming, play their first local non-festival headlining gigs November 18th at the Avalon and November 19th at the House of Blues- Anaheim. The Duke Spirit (can you say strange bedfellows?) opens both dates. Tickets are $17 (on sale Saturday at 10am) for the HOB date and $20 for the Avalon show (on sale today at noon).
  • The re-energized Hawthorne Heights play a few local shows at the House of Blues- Sunset Strip on November 8th ($20 on sale Saturday at 10am) and the Glass House November 7th($20 on sale now) with the Color Fred and Emery opening.

NEW VENUE ALERT!

For those of you who need a place to drink and rock out following a Kings loss (which, sadly, seems inevitably frequent this season) Club Nokia opens at the LA Live complex across the street from the Staples Center. This is the smaller, quainter (cuter?) version of the adjacent Nokia Theater which opened last year. The venue has announced a few opening gigs with In Flames headlining the venue on November 22nd ($25 on sale today), Calle 13 and Kinky (!) November 15th ($33-$53 on sale Saturday at 10am) and Metro Station ($18.50 on sale now).

  • An indie rockers wet dream of a lineup hits the Wiltern Theater on October 14th as The Ting Tings headline with Santogold and Mates of State opening. Tickets are $30 and go on sale Saturday at 10am.
  • As their September show opening for Beck at the Hollywood Bowl is sold out, your chance to see MGMT at an LA venue this month rests solely on a just added headlining show September 17th at the Henry Fonda Theater. Tickets are $20 and go on sale Saturday at 10am.
