    Music Editorial: She Kissed a Girl… I Didn’t Like It.

    Katy Perry pulled a triple whammy this week, topping three different charts on Billboard. “I Kissed a Girl” made # 1 on the Hot 100, Pop 100 and Hot Digital Song charts. Ahh, the bicurious scene kid’s theme song!

    Just when the LGBT community was slowly getting some validation and respect, this gospel girl gone gay comes out crooning about how confused she is for expressing homosexual desires. Oh no, kissing a girl! She liked it…What would her pastor parents think? This creates a sort of Catch-22; should we be glad that it’s now acceptable to mainstream audiences to sing about homosexual tendencies even if it’s still in that silly overrated heterosexual paradigm? Perry’s lyrics both help and hurt the LGBT community at large. Here you have a hot new influential gorgeous female who is successful and of a religious background talking about kissing girls: PRO. You also have a hot new influential gorgeous female saying that she’s confused, she feels dirty, she feels good and bad: CON.

    Born to be Hollywood: Celebrity Birthdays this Week

    Today, July 21st: Josh Hartnett is an All-American Hollywood cutie [bred in Minnesota]. He’s been listed as one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People, Teen People’s 21 Hottest Stars Under 21. His breakthrough role as Jamie Lee Curtis’ son in Halloween: H20 propelled him into a steady stream of big-time features including Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down. Did we mention he’s a cutie?

    July 22nd: Rufus Wainwright was born on July 22 to folk singing Kate McGarrigle and Loudon Wainwright III. His first studio album Rufus Wainwright [creative title, I think not?] was released in 1988 in Los Angeles. Rolling Stone Magazine referred to it as one of the best new albums of the year and recognized the singer as “Best New Artist” of the year. Although he battled meth addiction in the early 2000s he stepped it up in time to rock out with Debbie Harry, in June of 2007 he was part of the True Colors ensemble headlined by Cyndi Lauper and hosted by the fabulous Margaret Cho. The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation [GLAAD] awarded him the title of Outstanding Music Artist of 2008 for his album Release the Stars.

    Born To Be Hollywood: Celebrity Birthdays July 6-15th

    birthdaycandlesME08-07-16Burt Ward born on July 6, 1945 turned 63 last Sunday. Born and raised in Los Angeles. He is best known for his role as Robin in the 1960s television series, Batman. His epithet, “Boy Wonder” comes from his amazing speed reading ability. His highest speed scored by the American Medical Society in Beverly, Hills; that is, was 30,000 words a minute with a comprehension level of 90%. He was featured in an article titled, “Will the Real Boy Wonder Please Stand Up.” It’s been a while since that article came out. Let’s hope Ward doesn’t get confused and stand up when people ask for the Real Slim Shady. Even in tights, this Boy Wonder probably couldn’t escape Eminem.
