A few weeks ago, Wall-E was released and quickly received some of the best critical praise a film has gotten all year. Then The Dark Knight was released, and immediately dominated the summer movie market. But with the biggest movies of the summer out of the way, what are we supposed to do now? Sit through those again?
By the way, the answer is yes. Both of them. Over, and over, and over again.
However, once we’ve all had our fill of those two triumphs just when we’re wondering if their tremendous successes have signaled the end of blockbuster season, Ben Stiller’s Tropic Thunder charges in to remind us that this summer is not over! We do not have to want for movies with a nine figure budget! We can still blow things up!

With Comic Con a week behind us, I’m sure most of you have moved on with your crappy lives, but me I’m living in the past! Here are some highlights from the panel discussions for some of the coolest stuff on TV! Be careful, because it includes some mild ***SPOILERS***
True Blood â HBO
Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball’s new series True Blood is set to premier September 7th. It is based on the book series by Charlaine Harris, in which vampires are “Out of the Coffin,” thanks to a synthetic blood substitute that allows them to live openly among human society. The story focuses on Sookie Stackhouse, played by Anna Paquin, a psychic cocktail waitress in rural Louisiana who becomes involved with the vampire world. Here are some bullet points!

In spite of what seems to be an ever-growing backlash, I’m a perennial sucker for movies made by the Judd Apatow mafia. Every one of their films looks like they all called each other up and asked “Hey, I’ve got an idea for a movie. You wanna goof off with the boys for a month and get paid for it?” It’s almost like watching a couple swing dance; it looks like the most fun thing people could to together, and I just wish I could do it that well myself. With the accidental blockbuster success of last year’s Superbad, our friends at Sony Pictures and Apatow Productions try their hand at a real action blockbuster with this summer’s Pineapple Express
Pineapple Express is the boys’ first foray into genre films, rather than their standard “a bunch of guys standing around talking shit,” format. It is the story of Dale Denton (Rogen), mild mannered process server and stoner extraordinaire. When he’s not tricking people into accepting their subpoenas, he’s getting high and listening to talk radio in his car. After a visit to his drug dealer Saul (Franco), and equiped with the rarest, most exclusive weed in the state, Dale decides to smoke a joint in his car outside the home of his next subpoenaed target. While doing so, he witnesses a murder, is seen by the bad guys, and goes to Saul’s for help. When they realize that they might have been followed, and how serious the danger they’re in is, thus begins an absurd game of cat and mouse. That is, if the mice were high, and the cats were idiots.

The contestants are…
Catwoman: She’s already proved to be a success once (no I am not talking about the Halle Berry version), but will Nolan follow in Burton’s tracks again and re-create this already sexy lady?
The Riddler: One of the more well known Batman villains, he normally comes as a #2 to the Joker. I’m sure Nolan’s version would be quite different from the Schumacher’s version in which Jim Carrey danced around in a spandex.
Bane: One of the lesser known villain’s who is known as “The Man Who Broke the Bat.” This villain is addicted to the drug Venom and which Nolan may have something interesting to say about since he seems to like to find parallels to societal problems.

Many know Selma Blair as the young naive sex vixen in Cruel Intentions, or the straight laced lawyer from Legally Blonde, but Selma has got a whole other side to her, which she gets to play with in Guillermo del Toro’s film Hellboy II. She’s dark, funny, and anything but a debutante. She may be quite literally on fire for most of the movie, but she plays Liz, the pyro-girlfriend as cool as could be. Selma’s character, Liz, finally is able to grow up in Hellboy 2 and own her powers.
LA.CityZine had a chance to sit down with Selma and talk about her lack of ability to fire a fake gun, being an action star, her dark sense of humor, and her love for a good comedic role. So without further ado, we give you Selma Blair…

Recently LA.CityZine sat down with Jeff Holmes (Guitar and Vocals), Scott Holmes (Bass), and Wayne Watson, Jr (Guitar), who make up 3/4 of LA rock band, Immigrants & Navigators. We talked about music, films, and the eternal battle between pirates and ninjas. David Covarrubias (Drums) was unable to participate, hopefully we’ll get to speak with him soon.
Immigrants & Navigators will be performing live Wednesday, March 5th, at 9:00pm at Molly Malone’s (Map) for only $6!
To listen to their music check them out on MySpace.
Describe Immigrants & Navigators.
JEFF: We’re still defining ourselves, which you’re always doing. The sound is broadly rock n’ roll, and we talk about love, religion, terrible situations in Africa and good situations in Vietnam. We try not to make it too obvious when we rip off our favorite bands, which seems to work because between the four of us, we cover a lot of ground. I’d say we want something bigger than indie but less calculated than the mainstream.
