Movie News! School of Rock 2! First BAD Review of The Dark Knight!

July 14th, 2008 Written by: Jon · No Comments

bondposterWelcome to Monday. I hope everyone is having a wonderful day just like me. If not, then cheer up buckaroo… we will always have that weekend in the Gulags. By the way, I saw the new Mummy movie. I won’t even waste my time or yours to write a review on it. As anyone could tell you, it was absolutely awful. Please don’t pay $10 or more to see it. Okay… Tighten your shoelaces, because here we go!

    • What do you think of the new James Bond poster? I have accepted him as Bond but he still looks like the spanking villain. He should pull a Peter Sellars/Mike Meyers and play both the villain and the hero. But instead of any prosthetics or changing of his face, he will stay exactly the same. I think they should do that. Definitely.

    • I told you about Apatow producing a Will Ferrell/Sacha Baron Cohen Sherlock Holmes movie, yes? Well someone else is also doing a Sherlock Holmes movie. Yes,the one and only Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch) is doing his own Holmes movie. But who will be the star of this movie? How about Robert Downey Jr.? Okay. I can deal with that. This is his first role after and I believe they will be letting Sherlock kick some bad guy butt. Let’s get physical.. physical… I wanna get phy- Sorry. What is it with studios trying to rival each other by putting out two movies based on the same subject?

Did everyone have a good 4th of July? Good. Now that you have worn out your story about catching your cousin Sid kissing your sister at the 4th of July BBQ, it’s time to talk about something else at your water cooler… or watering hole… or… ah screw it. Just read it and get on with your day.

    • Check out this video interview with Bruce Campbell on the possibility of making another Evil Dead film. Should they do a remake like the one rumored a few years ago? Or should they do a sequel with Bruce back in action as Ash?

Everyone was hoping for some Harry Potter action since it is WB release but that is a no go. What will we see? Movie News: It’s BatMonth!

July 4th, 2008 Written by: Jon · No Comments

darkknightjokerposterYes yes… it is July. In just a couple of weeks, the highly anticipated Dark Knight comes and gives us a big moviegasm. So I am going to go ahead and give July 2008 the title of “Month of the Bat.” I know what some of you fear… “What if it stinks, Jon?” “Sucks to your ass-mar” is what I respond with. I believe that this movie is going to be the comic book movie of comic book movies. Such a bold statement, I know… but just you wait. On to a few things to keep you going through the weekend…

    • Since this is BatMonth, let’s start with some Batman news. As you can see, a new Dark Knight poster with the Joker’s marks on it has been released. Pretty cool. Let’s just say that the viral marketing of this movie has gone above and beyond any other movie. It’s insane.
    • A new extended trailer for the new movie has been released through Domino’s. Very cool. Check it out if you watch trailers. I know a few who refuse to watch/hear/read anything about the new Batman movie.

    Weekly Movie News!

May 15th, 2008 Written by: Jon · No Comments

smallvilleHello old friends… or new friends… or just plain ol’ acquaintances that I run into at the market after not talking to them for 5 years. Let’s pretend this is the awkward conversation we both don’t want to have. Super uncomfortable. Shall we?

I have some bits of news and rumors from all over, so stick with it.

    • Let’s start with some James Bond news. Well, it’s not news. The Aston Martin that someone drove into a lake was news. These are just some photos from the new Bond flick. Potential spoilers, but not really. Check them out here.
    • Since we’re on the topic of Bond, I might as well talk to you about this: Leonardo DiCapri may be taking up the role in Fleming, a movie based on Bond creator Ian Fleming. It is rumored DiCaprio may be taking the lead role. Check out the L.A. Times article here.

    Iron Man Review!

    May 3rd, 2008 Written by: Jon · 8 Comments

iron manHello old friends. I just got back from watching Iron Man. If you are reading this I am assuming you have an idea of what Iron Man is. So I’m not going to waste my time writing out the whole synopsis. Go watch the trailer here. Then move on if you’d like. You already know if you’re going to see it or not. I’m just going to give you my opinion.

When I first saw the trailer months ago… I had a fanboy erection. I watched it over and over. Seriously. On my iPod while going to bed at night. On my computer over and over in glorious HD. It got to the point where my girlfriend prohibited me from watching the trailer. Now the big problem with them cutting such an awesome trailer is this: It can sometimes be better than the movie. I started to get cold feet about this movie as I thought about it more. Maybe it won’t be that good. Check out this funny Onion piece about the trailer.

I tried to see the movie Thursday night at a midnight screening. Yes, I like to go to midnight screenings with geeky fanboys cheering and screaming at the scream. It’s awesome. Anyway, it seemed like other people wanted to do the same and it was sold out. So I saw it today. Did it live up to the trailer?

    You bet.

Concert Review: 311 Day 2008, New Orleans

March 17th, 2008 Written by: Jon · No Comments

311 Day bannerI know… it’s already 3/17. Aside from missing my flight and then having the flu again, I had to let the experience settle a while. I know 311 Day is not in Los Angeles, nor are they from Los Angeles (They do live here now and are based here). What does this all have to do with Los Angeles? Countless fans, including myself, that made the trek all the way to New Orleans for the show are. Many of you might be asking: What the hell is 311 Day?

Well, it’s a celebration that takes place every year on March 11th (3/11) by rock group 311 and their fans. Since 3/11/2000, the band has done a show every two years in New Orleans (aside from 2006, where it was held in Memphis due to Katrina) to celebrate the event. At this special show they play a MUCH longer set and often play rare or unheard songs for fans. The last few shows have been about 5 hours each. That, in my opinion, is something to behold itself.

Movie News Update: New Iron Man Trailer, Scrubs Continues, and More

February 29th, 2008 Written by: Jon · No Comments

    Iron Man

Alright… I’ve gotten a little time to tickle your movie bone. Not much. I am only doing it for one reason. The massive amount of geeky crap that’s surfaced. So let’s get to it so I can do the things that need to be done.

    • Full Iron Man movie trailer. New. Watch it. Now. Don’t dare defy me by saying it will not rock. Epic.
    • In other trailer-nanigans…The full Get Smart Trailer is here. What do you guys think?
    • BTW, that whole Where In The World Is Osama Bin Laden movie I mentioned months ago with the guy that ate McDonalds for a month. Yeah. He didn’t find him. Big ol’ marketing being lame. So don’t go see it. Trailer here. Screw Morgan Spurlock.
    • So the end of Scrubs was near. I never got into the show but it seemed cute. But supposedly, it might move on over to ABC and keep on going. Hope that excites you Garden State fans.
    • Everyone should have seen the Indiana Jones trailer by now. Going to post it anyway. I cross my fingers that it’s great.
    • Watch the new Judd Apatow Pot/Comedy/Action thing, Pineapple Express, before it’s too late. Red Band trailer, btw. “God’s Vagina”. Never thought you’d see James Franco in that kind of a role, eh? He’s gonna nail it. Awesome trailer.

It’s Friday Night… If You’re Reading This, You Probably Need Something To do.

February 1st, 2008 Written by: Jon · No Comments

    Drunkcat08-02-01

It’s 6:00 p.m. on Friday night. I’m sitting at home trying to convince other humanoids to watch some Indiana Jones with me. But no. Let’s make Jon go and find out how other people can have fun tonight. Yay!

    • Training Bra 4 Year Anniversary with DROID: For all I know, this is a celebration of Star Wars’ characters in lingerie. I’m down. But if you click the link you will find out more about this electro-music-fueled-breast-holding event. 9 p.m. - 2 a.m. at Que Sera.
    • The SPLIFF: Something about a lot of “raw stuff” and urban things. It’s free.
    • Under The Influence: A Tribute to Stan Lee: Gallery 1988 pays tribute to Stan Lee. As the comic world calls him: The Man.
    • Date In L.A.’s Mardi Gras Madness: At the Skirball Cultural Center. They claim this is the “party in L.A. you don’t want to miss.” Well. You’re at home reading this. You’re missing the party that, apparently, you should not be missing…

And here we are, at the end of this article. I’m still not watching Indiana Jones and you’re still on the internet. Touche, my friend. Please. For the sake of me. GO do something. Or just watch some Indie and think of me.

    (save me)

    (seriously)
