Everybody Wants to Rule the World: By Tears For Fears
Keith : So, do you want to set the tee for this one?
Zach: Two things right off the bat, the opening music before the drums kick in, it’s the most annoying intro I’ve ever heard and number two, I do not want to rule the world so Tears for Fears does not speak for me.

“Manic Monday” by The Bangles
Keith: Sooo, “Manic Monday” at what point during this song do you eat a bullet?
Zach: That’s not fair at all, it’s an above average pop song, catchy, upbeat, I think it’s pretty good.
Keith: Come on, they’re singing about how they don’t want to go to work on Monday! Not exactly an original thought. The word is out, Mondays suck, deal with it!

January 23rd – January 30th
Song of the week will be featured in a new format. Instead of two long paragraphs from Zach and I about the song, we will present the song in a conversation between the two of us that ends with a brief conclusion.
Song: Come On Eileen
Artist: Dexy’s Midnight Runners
Keith: So, “Come On Eileen”, fun tune or pathetic music making?
Zach: I say fun tune, it’s a high energy song, always gets a solid reaction at a party or a bar
Keith: Maybe that’s because the bar and/ or party is pathetic: this song is only a hit in the 80s.

It has fancy clubs, pricy restaurants, and trendy clothes. Yes, the famous Sunset Strip in Los Angeles is quite a sight to be hold. On any Friday or Saturday night you can jump in your car and travel west bound on Sunset Blvd. from Vine to La Cienega in just two hours. This delay is thanks largely in part to the pretentious individuals who seem to think that if you drive an expensive vehicle up and down Sunset Blvd.. eventually, a girl will jump in and ask to go home with you. Depending on the car, and the girl, this could happen, but it’s unlikely.

The common outside opinion is that it must be quite glamorous to live in Los Angeles. A town full of celebrities, exciting night scene, beaches, and palm trees are just a few things that make up the wonderful stereotypes of which our city is based on. However, for those of us who work behind the scenes in the entertainment industry, there is a much darker and frustrating reality.
I have worked at my current studio for almost four years. In that time I have had a couple modest increases in pay but one thing I don’t have is benefits. Even after being an every day worker since the fall of 2004, I am still considered a “free-lance employee”. Now why is that? Well, apparently this giant conglomerate needs to save money, so there are things most people don’t get that work at the studio. There’s also no retirement fund, no stock options, and no 401K (I’m not even sure what that is, could be the before mentioned retirement fund). Not to mention my paycheck doesn’t really allow for a lavish lifestyle. If I do venture out to a LA “hotspot” I’m usually broke after I pay the cover charge.

There is a lot of buzz around town now that the Dodgers have inked future Hall of Fame manager Joe Torre. If you drive around LA on a daily basis, maybe you have seen the billboards high above the street that feature Mr. Torre in his new uniform. There is wide speculation that bringing in the former Yankee skipper makes the Dodgers the preseason West Division favorite. However, while Torre’s four World Series Championships speak for themselves, he is going to need help from Big Blue’s front office if he is going to take this team to the next level.

I’m not cool. To be honest, I don’t think I ever have been. Growing up we would like to think we were cool. In high school and college, being cool was an every day occurrence. It’s easy to be cool when you surround yourself with people who are just like you. No one is going to tell you that you’re doing something wrong, because if you’re not cool, then they aren’t cool. When college ended, some friends and I decided we would make the move to Hollywood and what seemed like a great idea would soon reveal to us how far from cool we were. [Read more →]

By now you have seen all the news coverage and press conferences regarding the murder of Washington Redskin player Sean Taylor. It was indeed tragic news when it was announced last week that Taylor had died from a gun shot wound that struck a major artery in his leg. While this is certainly a terrible and unfortunate dose of reality for the players of the NFL, there is an underlying problem that surrounds this case that may be more tragic than the murder itself.
The media was on full alert as soon as this story broke. The more news that came in the more news agencies every where interrupted programming to give the viewer updates on what was happening. Within twenty-four hours of his death, America had complete autobiographical knowledge of the player, person, and father Sean Taylor was. He was a troubled youth who had recently changed his ways and become a devoted and loving father to his one year old daughter. Then the funeral on Monday was a legitimate media circus. All the cameras and the reporters and four-thousand people in the church to pay their respects. Four-thousand people, that’s more people than most of us meet in a lifetime. [Read more →]
