Born and raised in LA, I always seem to end up back in this city, no matter how far I stray.
I *LOVE* to eat. And I love music.
I wish I could eat music. :'(
I'm French, which means I'm inherently better at eating, arguing and making love. No, seriously. It's one of the articles of the Geneva convention.

Film fans, here’s your chance for a very, very special event.
This Wednesday there will be a one-off screening of the cult classic film “Forbidden Zone” in it’s new (and impressively well-done) colorized version!
The new version has been in development for a year now, and will be getting scattered screenings throughout the nation, but this might be LA’s only chance to catch this new version of the insane classic.
Director Richard Elfman will be on-hand to introduce the new version, as well as several special guests.

Orange County, you finally have a reason to exist!
Found this hot tip via Eater LA, but Newport Beach will be welcoming it’s very own 25 Degrees! You’ll recall that this 24-hour burger joint located on the ground floor of the Roosevelt Hotel just happens to be our vote for Best Burger in LA, and now you good folks south of Long Beach can find out for yourselves!
This is a little bit of a change for Tim and Liza Goodell, who previously had brought a sucessful OC concept here (to whit: Red Pearl Kitchen on Melrose, which is more or less dead at this point).
No word yet on when or where, but we’ll certainly keep you posted on any developpments.

Monday Blues got you down? Or perhaps it’s just the failing economy and offensive gas prices?
Well the good folks over at The Ideal Bite turned me on to a great little thing to look forward to: Luna Park’s Blue Mondays.
They’ve got a weekly rotating local and organic Blue Plate special for a measly $12, as well as drink deals (kumquat mojitos and red or white sangria for $5!!!), they’re just the thing to cheer you up after a long day in the salt mine.
And you can feel good about treating yourself, too: aside from the local organic thing, they recycle all their used vegetable oil into bio-fuel!

Is Marina del Rey finally starting to show up on the map?
The Marina seemed for, well, ever, to be little more than a footnote on the Westside. And yet slowly but surely, it’s been attracting bigger and better eateries. Dareisay making a name for itself?
Perhaps the proximity of the new-ish EA building and new condos in the Ballona Wetlands are to thank (blame?), but the Marina is becoming a new hotspot!

It’s easy to go an entire life without ever even hearing about Poutine. Aside from bacon, Canada has very few culinary exports (Keystone light and Molson Ice being the only others that come to mind).
And let’s be honest, Poutine doesn’t really lend itself to warmer climes: steak fries, covered in fresh cheese curds, the whole thing slathered in a thick brown gravy. I felt my waistline grow just writing about it.
But. There’s something to be said about it. Every so often, you just feel like slumming it, you’re just craving something greasy and horrifyingly unhealthy, and if you’ve ever had it before, you’ll know that Poutine is just the thing for that.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the salsa…
You’ll recall that the nation has been in the grips of a salmonella pandemic (so far 1,251 cases have been reported). The FDA, which is doing a bang-up job, originally blamed the outbreak on contaminated tomatoes, but then the focus was shifted onto jalapenos, onions and fresh cilantro. Basically, they’ve gone through the gamut of salsa ingredients before settling on jalapenos.
And while there hasn’t been a reported case of salmonella linked to this particular outbreak since July 4th, the FDA has officially advised grocery chains and consumers to avoid fresh, raw jalapenos.

Westside diners, be advised! You local BBQ joint (and really the only decent source of BBQ anywhere south of Washington along the coast) is moving!
Aunt Kizzy’s back porch is switching things up, and has decided to takle over the newly vacated spot formerly occupied by Killer Shrimp. The Shrimpeteria had announced it’s departure about 6 mponths ago, with no formal announcement on a new location.
But if you’re in the mood for some good down-home cue and you happen to be in the Marina del Rey area, you can now head closer to the ocean and visit Aunt Kizzy’s at their new spot. Dinner start this Thursday, and service stops at the old location on Wednesday.

And you thought tastings were reserved for wine… and chocolate… and cheese… and bottled water…
Ok, so they have tastings for just about anything and everything these days. But that being said, beer of one of the few things that actually has enough variety and styles to actually justify dedicating an evening to just one beverage.
And in this case, we’re talking specifically about Belgian beers, and everyone knows that the Belgians are just about the finest beercrafters in the world.
Well 55 Degree Wine, out in Atwater, is holding a Belgian Beer tasting on July 28th from 6-9:30. $15 will get you a sampling of 5 different brews:

Were you aware that as many as 400,000 people from the Middle East (mostly Syrian, Lebanese and Armenian) settled in Mexico around the turn of the last century? It’s true, I saw it on the internet.
Well that goes a long way in explaining Tacos al Pastor. After all, the meat is made more or less exactly the same way as the ubiquitous Gyros (and Turkish döner) that have kept cities throughout the world fed for so long now.
Well the good folks over at Serious Eats have happened upon an absolutely fantastic recipe for Tacos al Pastor that should definitely give your summer a nice tasty kick. Sweet and tangy pineapple mix with spicy chiles to really give your palate a tropical experience.
And since I found it so particularly yummy myself, I thought I’d share it all with you!
So without further ado, Tacos al Pastor:

Well, over a million of us have done it so far in the last week, so I guess there’s nothing to be ashamed of about it: We’ve waited in line, probably for hours and hours, just to get the lastest must-have toy productivity enhancer: the iPhone.
Well, there’s one more reason why every foodie needs one of these. And I say needs because how many times in the life of a foodie are you just dumbfounded as to what to eat? I myself have actually skipped meals simply because I couldn’t decide.
Enter Urbanspoon.

It’s way too hot to heat up the oven, but that shouldn’t keep you out of the kitchen. Many of these schools offer courses specifically on hot-weather cooking and grilling so there is no excuse for eating poorly over the summer.
HipCooks: This cooking school specializes in teaching the average singleton how to entertain and feed a group with classes like “My Big Fat Greek Cooking Class” and “Thai One On.” The Brewery (Downtown) location is impossibly cool, even if it is a bit difficult to locate at first. Classes are all $55 for a 3 hour class and end with a full meal and wine. Locations in West Los Angeles on Robertson and Downtown
