Shopping: Mega Sale in Orange County FOR charity!

September 14th, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

A Super September Sale to Stop by:

This one’s technically in Orange, not Los Angeles County. But the size of it seems worth any long drive:

    1. Blue Dot Boutique Sale

This sale features multiple stores from Orange County, which means you’re getting local businesses and therefore maybe more unique things. To list a few (or not so few), Lola Rouge, Goat, Patina, Harlow, Elle H, Holly Sharp, Stella, LANIS Boutique, Solutions, Trio, Rococo, Hannah Bean, La Diva, The Black Flamingo, Habit, The Flying Pram, Scout 3, The Den, Luxe Boutique, Wish Children’s Boutique, Tulum Island Boutique, Two Little Monkeys, Eye Society, Bundles and Bumps, The Queen Bee, Lola Rouge Kids, Red Sparks, CC Roo will be there. Wow!

Shopping: LF Sale. Go there now.

August 15th, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

This sale deserves its own post.

So, in less than 30 minutes I spent more than $200 Thursday at one store, LF. Because every item of clothing in LF’s inventory is frickin’ adorable. And currently discounted 60%.

While it is a very trendy and youthful store in some sense, you can definitely still find basics (tanks in glorious colors, jeans in equally cool colors, flip-flops, v-neck t-shirts, underwear) if you’re not interested in the peacock-feather earrings or the hot pink plastic jelly thongs studded with gems. But I don’t think anyone could go in this store and not find something - just the colors alone of the clothing are enough to put anyone in a good mood, if nothing else! And the chance to get a $40 brighter-than-neon lime tank for 15 and an almost $200 pair of faded, 80’s-ish jeans for $70, are other reasons to smile. And plus, some of the designers sold there like Emma and Sam are not commonly available.

Shopping: Sielians Vintage, California Closeouts, Maggie Barry…

August 9th, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

    1. Maggie Barry, whose “rock star designs”  (bargainsla.com) were originally created for “Hollywood celebs and TV shows”, makes special occasion and cocktail dresses suitable for the everyday person too. Feminine and comfortable, the soft rayon lycra jersey dresses “drape and flow” over curves.  I looked at her Fall 2008 collection, and I’m pretty sure some of those items look anything but flow-y and easy, but I will say they are all out-of-this-world and unique.

Maggie is opening her show room for a public sale, where all will be 40 to  60 % off. And you can know that you’re supporting local business, because she’s been designing in LA for 18 years.

    When: Sunday, 8/10, 8am - 3pm.

    Where: 1734 Silverlake Blvd., Los Angeles, 90026. (323) 644 - 1129. Map

Things to do: Run, walk, hike, or cycle Mandeville Canyon.

August 3rd, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

The weather has been pretty darn pleasant this week. Take advantage of this treat by getting outside and exercising while you can still breathe without keeling over - something I feel like doing when running in 95 degree, smog-filled heat. Since, at the moment, at least a good chunk of the LA area is NOT atrociously hot like this, celebrate  by getting outside and moving!

One thing I can claim some level of expertise for is running routes. Considering the fact I’ve only lived in LA for 3 (school) years, I’ve run quite a few different routes and decently far distances. So for those interested in exploring more of the city on foot, read (and run or walk) on. I have a beautiful place to go.

    Shopping: My all-time favorite sale - Monica’s!

August 2nd, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

    1. The Shopaholic Sample Sale will feature samples and overstock inventory from “T Luxury, Leonard Street, Mynx, For Joseph, Jenny Hann, T Bags, Subtle Tones, Karen Zambos, Hale Bob, and more” (bargainsla). All is discounted 50 % off or more. I am a huge fan of Subtle Tones. There’s a boutique on Montana Avenue filled with lovely linens and silks, as well as beautiful home decor - for instance, sparkly chandeliers I’d buy for my house if I won the lottery. No, but seriously, there’s some nice and affordable stuff too: for instance, the black silk poof-y dress I got for $40 at the Montana Avenue Sidewalk Sale. Yes, $40. Proof that not all on Montana is outrageous, and proof that this sale won’t be either.

    When: Saturday 8/3 and Sunday 8/4. 9am - 7pm.

Where: Pasadena Civic Auditorium, 300 E. Green St., Suite 104, Pasadena.

Shopping: Cowboy style, home decor, and more.

July 27th, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

http://flickr.com/photos/zach_manchester/1. I love the west, cowboys, and therefore cowboy shirts. Kowboyz is having a sale on their, well, cowboy shirts. These include vintage pieces by New Scully, HBarC, and Tony Lama (for those who actually know their western attire.) The store specializes in vintage western gear, so if cowboy is what you’re going for, this is the place to go.

    When: Now, and ongoing.

Where: 8050 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, 90048. Map

Things to do in LA: Eat a Diddy Riese sandwich.

    July 20th, 2008 Written by: Nicola · 1 Comment

Diddy Riese cookie sandwich.Word on the street is the economy isn’t doing so well. So, I’m always writing about sales, which is kind of saving money, but kind of not, because, well, it’s still more shopping. For once, I’m offering something to do (yes, the act of eating this treat qualifies as an event) that don’t cost an arm and a leg, or an arm, or a leg, or much at all for that matter!

A perfect example of an idea so simple but SO wonderful is Diddy Reise. By simple, I mean cookies and ice cream. By amazing, I mean, well, you’ll just have to try one of their cookie sandwiches to find out. But to give you an idea, you select a kind of cookie for each side of your sandwich. I’m not going to deny that I have them memorized, but I’ll just list a few - peanut butter, chocolate chip walnut, white chocolate macadamia, cinnamon-sugar, chocolate chip, dark chocolate macadamia, candy chocolate chip.. okay, I just listed them all. Anyway. Then, you choose your flavor of ice cream, which will be shoved in between the two, baked fresh every morning cookies (trust me, I’ve seen the guys there at 7 am baking on my way to work, and I’ve even seen people ordering the ice cream sandwiches at, like, 10 am. Crazy!). And voila, you have your own totally unique creation for your enjoyment.

Shopping: More sales to celebrate summer

July 19th, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

Sale signsI’m telling you, take advantage of these sales, because a lot of them are happening at stores that might not normally have such big sales, but that are simply because it’s summer. Shopping: Sunday Sales - bridal gowns (and more), anyone?

July 13th, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

Sale signsSale. Practice the word with me, because it’s going to be used a lot this month. Summer means stores getting rid of, well summer clothes. Hm, although this doesn’t make total sense to me. Shouldn’t they do this in, like, September? Nevertheless, a whole new batch of sales for JUST this weekend.

The following are all currently happening:

    1. Guess I’m not “ultra-hip” because I’ve never heard of Mr Winter. But, the “ultra hip” fashion line is having a sale on their “tees, tunics, tops, hoodies, shorts, and leather goods”. All 50 - 70 % off and under $25. From the looks of the research I did, images or details about the line are found next to nowhere online. So you may have to take a risk and see if you like the clothing once you get there.

    • When: Today, Sunday 7/13, from 11am - 4pm.
    • Where: 4167 Center St., Culver City, 90232.
    • NOTE: According to one source (bargainsla.com), the only form of payment accepts CASH. So yes, a very important note to consider.

    Shopping: Four AMAZING Sales

July 12th, 2008 Written by: Nicola · No Comments

Lisa Kline1. DNA Boutique started their Summer Clearance Thursday, and it’s still going on. The store’s actually already a boutique, so a sale AT a boutique should be even more deal-alicious. A PLUS for those male readers: this boutique has not only women’s clothing but men’s, too - something probably unfairly unaddressed by yours truly… Anyway, female or male, young or old, prices will be discounted 20 to 65%. A good thing for everyone!PS: To make the sale more tantalizing, they aren’t allowed to tell us the brands they sell - so not to hurt the “regular price business” of their sellers. This is like serious undercover, well kind of undercover, sale business! I like it.

    • Where: TWO Locations. Yet another plus: The first, at 7519 Sunset Blvd., Hollywood. The second, at 411 Rose Ave., Venice.
    • Call (310) 399 - 0341 for details.
    • When: NOW.
