Review: Tera Patrick and PJE Los Angeles Have Released Their Clothing Line!

June 24th, 2008 Written by: Nora · No Comments

terapatrickclothes08-06-24Last Wednesday night the HOT spot in Los Angeles was at Club Opera/Crimson. Tera Patrick along with PJE Los Angeles debuted a new clothing line: T-Shirts for men. The club was the perfect low-light, seductive setting for the collection. People decked out to the max were mingling and waiting in anticipation for Tera Patrick’s arrival.

Sexy, beautiful, hypnotic are all under statements when attempting to describe Tera Patrick. Tall, dark and sultry she seems to glide rather than walk, and her smile… absolutely orgasmic. It seemed as though as soon as she arrived, everybody else arrived. Within minutes the club was crowded and Tera Patrick in high demand.

I was able to ask her a few questions, and she was the sweetest, most natural person I had met in a long time. When asked about the birth of the concepts used for the clothing line she said she loved characters like WonderWoman and other strong female archetypes and that the glam phase of the 50’s and 60’s, like Marilyn Monroe had always captivated her, she added, “When I was a kid growing up I wanted to be just like them.”

Interview and Review: DJ Miguel Migs Rounds off The Best American DJ Tour Competition

June 18th, 2008 Written by: Nora · No Comments

lastdjcompetition08-06-15It is sad and true…The Best American DJ Tour Competition has officially ended its run in Los Angeles last Saturday the 14th with an EXCEPTIONAL performance by Miguel Migs! Club Avalon was packed and the energy inside was at an indescribable level. Although everyone was dancing, a sharp change occurred at 1am: Miguel Migs slides into the DJ booth and slowly starts his set. You could see the swarm of people migrate towards the DJ booth as the music picked up a distinct beat and the moment fans had been waiting for had arrived: Miguel Migs was at work and the crowd was LOVING it!

I watched in awe as the dance floor became dense with bodies, each picking up the rhythm and moving to the incredible base booming out of the speakers. His music is definitely of an ineffable nature; the influences and beats present in his music is not just for the clubs or the dance scene, it is for every place at any time. There is an innate soul, a discernible rhythm, a movement provoking melody, and an irresistible hypnotic pull. Avalon, the crowd and myself were taking it all in; screaming, whistling and dancing as if the sun was not going to come up. Suffice to say Miguel Migs managed in an incredibly short amount of time to bring us all into a frenzied state of euphoria and keep us there throughout his whole set.

Interview and Review: Kaskade Kicks Off The American Best DJ Tour in LA!

June 10th, 2008 Written by: Nora · No Comments

DJdude08-06-10 All I can say, and I know I speak for many, many dance music fans, is that Kaskade’s performance — the first of only two performances to be hosted in Los Angeles for the America’s Best DJ Tour Competition — was ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL! I have never seen the Vanguard so packed! The dance floor looked more like a standing music concert than a club with one of the largest dance spaces in Los Angeles! People were standing shoulder to shoulder; some moving their bodies ever so slightly to the beat of the music in anticipation of Kaskade’s entrance. At 12:30am sharp, he smoothly and with an unassuming manner entered the DJ booth - and without so much as even a verbal introduction or stark change in music style (so often rendered jarringly obvious by other DJ’s) transitioned into the beginning of his performance with ease and absolute mastery, starting with a song from his new album Strobelite Seduction.

Theater Review: I Gelosi Takes Over The Stage!

June 3rd, 2008 Written by: Nora · No Comments

THEJEALOUSONE08-06-0-03 I was honestly blown away by the bravura performance of the actors in the play I Gelosi. So blown away in fact all I could think of throughout the entire show was: Why are they not at the Geffen or another bigger theatre? They deserve it! They honestly do!

The Plot: Inspired by true events I Gelosi (”The Jealous Ones”) were the first theatre group formed in Italy, and the first to present a woman actress Isabella Adreini. From 1569-1604 they were the talk of Europe; traveling to France to play in the court of King Henry III. All was going well until the troop decided to do a satire on Pope Gregory…and were immediately ostracized. The play follows their rise and eventual fall from fame; fully incorporating their motto Virtu, fama ed honot ne far gelosi, “We are jealous of attaining virtue, fame, and honor.” They beg the question: Is theatre for entertainment only or is it a path through which the oppressed give voice for change?

Publishers Weekly has said, “Modern readers who assume that church-going Southern Baptists don’t swear, drink or work to promote birth control will find Lillian an eye-opener. She played an unofficial though vital role as the Carter administration’s goodwill ambassador around the world she almost persuaded our government to let Muhammad Ali bargain with Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini for our hostages taken in 1979. Carter offers wonderful stories about a great woman.”

Immigration: Liver Transplant Has Citizens Divided

    April 27th, 2008 Written by: Nora · 2 Comments

mexicanflag08-04-26Here is a fundamental question: should we taxpayers pay for surgeries performed on illegal immigrants?

Ana Puente was born with a severe liver disorder in Mexico. At an early age her aunt brings Ana to Los Angeles, both as illegal immigrants, seeking medical help for her niece. Ana Puente has already had 2 liver transplants at UCLA Medical Center; each surgery paid for by the state. However when Ana turned 21 last June she was too old to receive the health coverage she had been 3provided with prior to her biorthday.

Shortly after the new year Ana’s liver was failing again. She was hospitalized at USC Medical Center where a Doctor in her Medi-Cal application wrote:

“Her current clinical course is irreversible, progressive and will lead to death without another liver transplant.”

    The application was denied.

Literary Event: Published Professor Alistair McCartney

April 25th, 2008 Written by: Nora · No Comments

theendoftheworld08-04-24This week in the literary world we have a reading and book signing by new novelist Alistair McCartney at the Highways Performance Space. A brilliant man sharing his brilliant insights…an event not to be missed.

Sunday April 27th 6pm at the Highways Performance Space

The End of the World Book by Alistair McCartney is both a novel and an encyclopedia (A to Z) of memories, obsessions and philosophical fixations, working in and building upon the same metafictional terrain as Bolano, Borges and Sebald. Darkly comic, TEOTWB chronicles the story of one man’s life, both the world and its dissolution. As Dennis Cooper, author of God Jr. said, “If I’ve read a more deeply impressive, beautiful, sweeping, mindful, and innovative first novel than Alistair McCartney’s The End of the World Book, I have no memory of it. McCartney is a writer of peerless, brilliant originality and pure, giant talent.”
