Who are the Virgins? They’re quite different from any band I’ve heard in a long time, that’s for sure. They integrate alternative sounds into their music, and in certain songs, harmonize with oohs and ahhs. Their self-titled album clearly exemplifies their growth since their beginning in 2005.
The song transition between the first and second song kind of throws you off at first, because it’s so different. As you continue to listen to the album, however, the out-of-place transitions seem to fit. In the song “Rich Girls”, it seems as if you’re thrown back into the seventies. The song seems like an instant classic - one that can be played anywhere: at any party, on any radio station, ANYWHERE. True to their album cover, much of the album resembles bubblegum pop from the 70s.
One of the things I really like about the band is that they feel like they can do anything. They can sing in high pitched voices and not care if they are judged. The Virgins make you feel like a Virgin again. Carefree, with no extra baggage.
This CD really makes me nostalgic. Despite the almost pessimistic lyrics, the beats to the songs seem to lift any mood. The tunes constantly have me tapping my feet, and I can truly say that I am in love with the album.
