I already highlighted my trip to Big Sur, but I had so many pictures that I wanted to share a few more this week as another photo essay. The scenery is so beautiful up there that it’s pretty much impossible to take a bad picture. Enjoy!

Warped Tour blew by Ventura on Sunday, and I have the sunburns and nasty lines tans to prove it. The talent, however, definitely made up for the heat, as did the free Monster Energy Drinks, the somewhat free swag people were handing out, and the sheer amount of people looking to have a good time. Here are some pictures documenting the day:

Here is a quiet park near Culver City thats a worth a trip. There are some amazing views from the top of the park. I would have included the view of Downtown Los Angeles, but the smog was so bad, you couldn’t even see the buildings. On a clear day, you can see the whole city from up
here.
Entrance to Kenneth Hahn State Park
Kenneth “Kenny” Frederick Hahn (August 19, 1920–1997) was a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for forty years from 1952 to 1992. Prior to his election, Hahn served on the Los Angeles City Council. He was an ardent supporter of civil rights throughout the 1960s, and became greatly respected in the African-American community of Los Angeles. The park was a failed water reservoir and Hahn a city councilman at the time, convinced the mayor to use the land as a park. The area was also used as the site of the first Olympic Village during the 1932 Olympics hosted in Los Angeles.

The Honda Civic Tour ended its two month long trip at the Honda Center on Saturday Night. 8,000 people of all ages showed up to watch, and even a few started waiting in line at 6 in the morning.
Unfortunately, I missed Phantom Planet, but the rest of the bands were very good. Despite some malfunctions, The Hush Sound played a very solid set. Motion City Soundtrack (who, in my opinion, should have headlined), was very good, as always. Panic at the Disco rounded out the show with an hour and fifteen minutes of pleasure for the audience. Here are some pictures from the evening:

If you’re ever in the mood for a short escape from LA’s urban sprawl, consider a one night trip up to gorgeous Big Sur. Big Sur refers to a region of the coast roughly 40 miles south of the Monterey peninsula and 300 miles north of LA. It’s defined by a dramatic, rocky coastline, stunning azure waters, towering fragrant pine forests, and an untouchedquality that is very refreshing.

Yeah, it happens every day. But that doesn’t mean a pretty sunset can’t be appreciated.

Well, this festival was definitely not in the same scale as the other cultural street affairs I have attended in the last couple of months, but between the pony ride, the petting zoo, the Hye Riders Harleys and some of the booths, I had enough subject matter to pull a good sized photo essay. Enjoy.

On Thursday night, Thrice, Circa Survive, and Pelican played one of two dates at the Avalon. Here is my photo essay of this amazing night.
On Thursday night, Thrice took the Avalon’s stage with Circa Survive, Pelican, and Aushua. I missed Aushua’s set, but I got there in time to see Pelican’s. Pelican played a wonderful instrumental set that seemed to move everyone without words. When the curtain rose for Circa Survive, Anthony Green and the rest of his bandmates were found lying on the floor and sitting on drumheads. Their set was strong, and many of the audience members that had come for Thrice left with a liking Circa Survive as well. When Circa Survive’s set ended, the anticipation grew as concert-goers waited for Thrice to come onstage. Thrice played 19 songs and came back with an encore of two songs. Their setlist can be seen below. Enjoy the pictures!

Bef0re these heat waves become something permanent (aka summer) and before the sun turns the few, brave bits of LA greenery into brown wisps, take some time to look around and enjoy all the beautiful plants thriving in our sprinkler-fed yards and medians.
