This fall, the always on-point geniuses at Christian Dior give the fashion world a fresh, flirty surprise with their ready-to-wear designs.
This dress, for example, takes traditional fall hues (like deep red and burnt orange) and dares to make them pop out of the monotonous crowd. The contrast of a fun geometric whirlwind against the radiant white is striking and playful while maintaining the unique Christian Dior sophistication that people just can’t take their eyes off of. In addition to manipulating a perfect color combination to absolute impeccability, this piece takes a familiar shape and brings it to another level by allowing for large ruffles in a bubble skirt that culminate to form a young perfection that captures the evolution of Christian Dior’s lasting vision.

Someone recently told me that SWAG stands for Shit-We-All-Get. I guess the PG version would be “Stuff” instead of “Shit.” Oh well! Apparently, it can also stand for Shopping, Walking and Giving. At least for this event it does.
If you’re a fan of getting free “stuff” than you need to head over to Beverly Blvd between 6-9pm because tomorrow, September 4th, they are having the Beverly Hills Block Party in honor of the Saban Clinic.
Participants include Beverly Hills Juice, Boutique M, Bungalow Salon, DAVINCI Custom Furniture, Décor de Paris, IN SEOUL, JIAN BBQ, Joseph Walker Boutique, Kevan Hall Designs, Kim Salmela Atelier, LA Skin, Scent Bar, Mandarette Chinese Café, MASSE Boutique, Muscle Mechanics LA, The Natural Face Place, Pane e Vino, persimmon, Orientalism Furniture, Recess, Richard Bowman & Xavier Othon, Beverly Spine and Wellness Center, The Valley of the Dolls and MORE.

Although there are many places to buy creative T-shirts, it’s almost impossible to get one of a kind t-shirts unless you want them yourself. Now until September 20th at Fred Segal in Santa Monica, they will be combining the powers or artists and apparel companies to create one of a kind apparel for shoppers, with their new “15 Minutes with Alternative.” Abstract watercolorist Matt Sohl will be children’s fabric paints to design one of a kind clothing for buyers.
“The setup’s art-exhibit-esque: 9 of the models mirror an on-display series of interconnected word paintings (”stuff/things”, “steal/spend”, etc), while undisplayed pieces inform the other six — colorful surrealist splotches the artist claims parallel the originals, and are totally not an errant marker-in-the-dryer. 15 more similarly unique pieces are coming via Alternative’s website, and’ll arrive just after labor day…”

1. Maggie Barry, whose “rock star designs”  (bargainsla.com) were originally created for “Hollywood celebs and TV shows”, makes special occasion and cocktail dresses suitable for the everyday person too. Feminine and comfortable, the soft rayon lycra jersey dresses “drape and flow” over curves.  I looked at her Fall 2008 collection, and I’m pretty sure some of those items look anything but flow-y and easy, but I will say they are all out-of-this-world and unique.
Maggie is opening her show room for a public sale, where all will be 40 to  60 % off. And you can know that you’re supporting local business, because she’s been designing in LA for 18 years.
When: Sunday, 8/10, 8am - 3pm.
Where: 1734 Silverlake Blvd., Los Angeles, 90026. (323) 644 - 1129. Map

You may have heard supports and pundits suggesting that Barack Obama’s charisma, charm, and politics are reminiscent of the much loved John F. Kennedy. The comparisons are fair, even if you’re only using Obama’s command of a crowd and tendency to inspire hope and personal accountability as a measure.
There is another connection between the two politicians, however this one has less to do with international relations than twin sets and A-line skirts. Vanity Fair’s 68th Annual International Best Dressed List counts Michelle Obama as one of the top style icons, a title Jackie Kennedy Onassis still holds to this day.

Watch out Beyonce and Jay, Angelina and Brad; there’s a new fashionable couple on the scene! The cutest Chemical Engineer majors ever spotted at UCLA prove that physics can be hot, too! Amber and Jason give us a taste of what wearing lab coats everyday and being in a loving relationship can do to your wardrobe.
What is L.A. street fashion to you?
Amber: L.A. street fashion is like saying “my personal style, meet the city of Los Angeles.” L.A. street fashion is about bringing your own flavor and allowing yourself to broadcast that. People are open canvases, billboards, and another form of mass media in my opinion. Some people may look at you and say “What was she thinking?” or “Wow, how did she think of doing that?” but either way it’s about infusing your own personal touch into what’s hot and trendy.
