It’s been a while since I’ve seen some magic shopping dust your way. I do apologize, so for this week, I’ve compiled quite a list this week to make up!
First, and most importantly, as this sale is ALREADY occurring:
1. “The (emphasis added) Sample Sale” is located on Melrose, this sale, complete with clothes, shoes and accessories, will feature tons of brands, it seems. “Blumarine, Lela Rose, Martin Grant, Narcisco Rodriguez, Milly, Tory Butch, Easton Pearson, Ferretti, Chloe, and more” will be discounted 50-80%. (topbutton)
- When: NOW (Saturday June 28) and Sunday, June 29. Sat. 11am â 7pm. and Sun. 12pm â 5pm.
- Where: 7967 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, 90046. (213) 840-1664
2. Secondly, an equally high end sale for the sale-lovers, but not necessarily the bargain searchers:2. The Blast Boutqiue Summer Sale will happen THIS Saturday (June 28). To qualify my meaning of “high end”, here’s who will be featured: Dolce & Gabbana, Cavalli, Chloe, Versace, Vivienne Westwood, and Fendi. To name a few.

Last night, Michael Kors and Lucky Magazine threw a bash in the Galleria honoring the opening of their newest store. Living up to expectations, it was all gorgeous bags and shoes, fabulous cocktails and super markdowns.
When I walked in, I was handed a cocktail and asked if I wanted a stylist to choose an outfit for me. As I begged no, I watched women have their photos taken for the Lucky Magazine website. Super cute stuff but I’m way too shy for that so I hung back and lusted over the bags. Because I have a special problem where I always pick the most expensive thing in the store, the first one I honed in on was a python hinge clutch that retails for just under a grand. Hmmmm…starving artist salary here, do I need a mega clutch? That would be no. The next one I picked up was from a special collection. It was beautiful…the size of a letter with a chain handle. It was also $600. So, okay, okay, I couldn’t afford to buy what I wanted, but I truly enjoyed looking.

You heart your dog. Hey, so do I. Let’s face it, Los Angeles is a dog kind of town. We rescue them, love them, dress them and revere them; why not show tribute to them with kitschy domination merchandise that show your dog as a dictator? Seems like a logical next step to me.
Obeythepurebreed.com is slightly obnoxious, especially if you’re a mutt-lover like me, but I’m pretty sure this is all very tongue-in-cheek. I mean, who knows, the owners of this site might indeed want a Yorkshire Terrier to take over the world, but I doubt it. (They do have a Mutt section. The, “I like big mutts and I cannot lie” shirt is pretty proper.) This online store is stock full of propaganda posters (think Che Guevara but as a Maltese), t-shirts, bumper stickers and mugs. You can look up your dog’s breed and get something that reminds you of him or her. It’s just so freaking sweet.
There are so many fun things on the site, I decided to narrow it down according to breeds of cool dogs I know. Here we go:

We Los Angelenos are now blessed with enough H&Ms to satisfy our thirst for cute, cheap fashion. I’m not gonna lie, for years there I was feeling pretty gypped. I’d travel to Amsterdam or San Francisco and buy up as much stuff as I could fit in my suitcase, secretly cursing the local women that could drop by weekly, or daily if they felt like it. Now, we have an H&M in the Beverly Center, on Colorado in Old Town Pasadena and at the new shopping center, Americana in Glendale. After doing much research at each location, I proclaim the new Americana location to be the winner. Here’s why:

Okay, so maybe you don’t necessarily want to dress your pooch up in a skull hoodie like the pug to the right. But, sometimes you might want to treat your dog to a new fly collar or a hip bed. Dog Boutiques are fun for the whole family. You can shop, bring your dog and get cool things you would never find at Petco. Win-win, right?
There are tons of frou-frou boutiques in LA to choose from. Here are my top 3:
- Tails of Santa Monica This place rocks. It’s right on Main Street, near Holy Guacamole and across the street from The Library Ale House. Just think, you can go get a buzz on and then shop for a new collar for your dog. There are hemp collars, plastic collars, leather skull collars and jewel-encrusted collars. You’ll definitely find something you haven’t already seen on every other canine at the dog park. This place also has quite a selection of dog beds you won’t be embarrassed to have in your living room. The owner is usually there. She’s sweet, helpful and she loves dogs. Cool place. Oh, and they have cat stuff too.

If you’re a girl and you like clothes, I have a declaration. I think it’s impossible to walk by Native on Franklin without buying something. The clothes are so cute and affordable and the staff so friendly, you’d have to be a budget nazi to pass this place up. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone home with a dress or a bracelet when my only goal was a magazine from Daily Planet.
On Saturday, my friend Stacey and I walked by Native on our way to Bourgeois Pig. I should say we tried to walk by Native. We never made it far enough to have our coffee. Lured in by the $20 rack, we spent the whole 40 minutes we had to kill before heading to the Arclight buying clothing instead of caffeinating ourselves. Totally worth it.

It’s impossible to mention the new shopping center Americana in Glendale without getting mixed reactions. People curse. Others allow their faces to light up like they’re talking about the divine. You’ll hear about how the construction has been going on since the dark ages. How Glendale doesn’t need another shopping center. They’ll tell you that it’s the best shopping in Los Angeles. That having an H&M near their apartment has drastically bettered their quality of life.
It’s a mall, people.
But, because the Americana has now been open for a month, I think it’s safe to recommend it. I mean, it’s still going to be crazy busy and you’ll still get annoyed but at this point, I think it’s worth it. First off, it’s huge. Gigantic. Way bigger than The Grove but the same feel, maybe even cuter. Definitely more open and airy. There are several restaurants, including the prerequisite Cheesecake Factory and a cute little Coffee Bean so you can shop with a caffeine buzz. The movie theater is reason alone to pay a visit. 18 screens. Much better than the spitting frog place across the street, even if the tickets are pricier ($11.75).

If you want something more unique than the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale (which is going on right now, by the way), here are some other options for you deal-seekers and clothes lovers:
Italmost is holding a sale, with Prada, Chloe, and Gucci Handbags at 35% off. Another 70% and I’ll be able to afford one! For those who can, visit the Beverly Hills store (apparently there for 10 years) and snatch up a new bag. Or, if you’re like me and not quite able to purchase one of these, turn right to their sale rack, where purses are 85% off! That sounds just FINE to me. Nothing wrong with used if you can keep your home and car after buying it.
Some pluses: They offer exchanges, and they also buy and trade bags - in “great condition.” Another plus, there’s free public parking next door, but only for two hours - so don’t spend the day trying to decide what purse you want, or you’ll be making up for that discount with a ticket!
- When: This weekend! Hurry! 9:30am - 5pm.
- Where: 331 N. Beverly Dr., Suite #1, Beverly Hills, CA 90210. Call (310) 247-0887 for details.
