Morning Video: Teens like to set their pants on fire apparently

September 7th, 2008 Written by: Mali · No Comments

Can someone please explain to me this phenomenon?

Did someone tell them this is cool? Safe? Fun? Because it’s not any of those things. Is it for the rush? Better than Magic Mountain? Because I’m thinking there are better options. Or just plan ol’ stupidity? I don’t know, what do you think? Or is this just a guy thing? Something I’ll never really understand?

Case 2: Competitors for the Darwin Awards

Music: An Ode To L.A., When It’s Not So Sunny

September 3rd, 2008 Written by: Liana Aghajanian · 1 Comment

Los Angeles, I adore you. You know I do, but your endless sunshine really does a number on my nerves. This time, it’s not me, it’s you.  I don’t think many people feel the way I do about you and your mission to make every day a sunny day, and sometimes unbearably hot day, but I know who does: Loudon Wainwright III, folk singer, writer and father of Rufus. Wainwright has a wonderful song called “Grey in L.A.” While I was dying in traffic this morning, “Grey in L.A.” brightened up my day. Isn’t that ironic? Don’t you think? A little too ironic, yes I really do think.

But I digress. I will leave Alanis for another day. Here are the lovely lyrics and a video of the song to accompany them. You might recognize it from “Knocked Up.” Here’s to more rainy and grey days in L.A., even though I might in the minority on that.

When it’s grey in L.A. I sure like it that way
Cause there’s way too much sunshine round here
I don’t know about you I get so sick of blue skies
Whenever they always appear

Morning Video: New Age Graffiti

September 3rd, 2008 Written by: Mali · No Comments

The beauty of art is that it is always changing and more often than not, pushing boundaries. People have argued and will argue about what is art and what is trash. Only time will tell what is and what isn’t art, and chances are you won’t be around to know. Art is merely a perception of the moment. What is controversial one day is prude the next. Graffiti is one of the more “controversial” art forms of our day. Is it art or is it destruction? That’s your call, but it’s leading us into the future of art. More often than not, some of the greatest thinkers, experimentalists, and inventors have been artists. With the right artists and the forward thinking graffiti may one day be the gateway to unbelievable pathways. And the journey starts now…
