Last night in Westwood the Tropic Thunder premiere went off without a hitch (aside from a few silly protesters). LA.CityZine was lucky enough to be in attendance and here are some shots of your favorite faces to walk the carpet including Robert Downey Jr. (who seems to be hiding behind Ben Stiller at times), Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Tobey Maguire, Amy Adams, Jodi Foster, Jena Malone’s new haricut and many more.
Keep an eye out on LA.CityZine for more red carpet coverage coming soon, including interviews from the carpet! Also, check out our review of the film now!
There is no part of my ego that is large enough that would allow me to call myself an art critic on any level. However, with the recently opened AutomoLove exhibit at the Antebellum gallery in Hollywood, I may have to start sipping wine and eating high priced cheese.
Thanks to artist and owner of the Antebellum gallery Rick Castro, fetish enthusiast and automotive junkies alike can come together and enjoy some spectacular shall we say, “different” pieces of art. Ranging from Playfully cartoonish to blatantly sexually suggestive, this collection of over twenty artist featuring paintings, photography and drawings, is guaranteed to hold something for everyone to appreciate. This past, Saturday August 2, Jockey presented the City of Hope’s Underwear Affair which supports cancers below the waist. The event is used to encourage people to talk about certain types of cancer that people are often to embarrassed to discuss. Well what better way to lighten up the mood to watch a bunch of people in costumes running around in silly knickers!
If you happened to miss the event but would still like to donate, you can do so here.
And here is a small example of the awesomeness that went on this weekend (check out Vinny Chase…er…Adrian Grenier running for the cause)…
Don’t cry! Comic-Con may be over but we’ll always have the memories and of course the pictures that may be used to blackmail you in 10, maybe 20 years.
Here is LA.CityZine’s Comic-Con photo essay filled with plenty of people dressed up at Shrek, Hellboy, Batman, a Sim, Yoda, and a WHOLE lot more.
Here are a handful of pictures taken at a recent competition at the LA Equestrian Center. There were some good jumps and some ‘whoops’ jumps…because even horses make mistakes.
The dulcet infectious lyrics of the Wet Spots, “Do You Take it in the Ass,” are Lili VonSchtupp’s cue to start the show. Dressed in a black slip which leaves little to the imagination, Lili takes to the stage, bends to the floor with her ass facing the crowd, and points her finger. The music disappears and Lili faces the audience. She welcomes the crowd, simultaneously sounding off a dozen or so expletives, just, as she says, to get them off her chest. She’s now ready to start the show. This is Monday Night Tease, Los Angeles longest running weekly Burlesque show at the 3 Clubs on Santa Monica and Vine. 3 Clubs is a two roomed joint with a long bar in one room, where a sliding door takes you into the second room. Here you will find plenty of comfy couches in swanky booths, spacious tables, an elevated stage, and generous bar.
Who would have thought that just by slightly altering Matthew James Bellamy’s voice ever he’d be the new and improved Gwen Stefani. It’s almost unbelievable. Enjoy!
I already highlighted my trip to Big Sur, but I had so many pictures that I wanted to share a few more this week as another photo essay. The scenery is so beautiful up there that it’s pretty much impossible to take a bad picture. Enjoy!
Warped Tour blew by Ventura on Sunday, and I have the sunburns and nasty lines tans to prove it. The talent, however, definitely made up for the heat, as did the free Monster Energy Drinks, the somewhat free swag people were handing out, and the sheer amount of people looking to have a good time. Here are some pictures documenting the day:
Here is a quiet park near Culver City thats a worth a trip. There are some amazing views from the top of the park. I would have included the view of Downtown Los Angeles, but the smog was so bad, you couldn’t even see the buildings. On a clear day, you can see the whole city from up
here.
Entrance to Kenneth Hahn State Park
Kenneth “Kenny” Frederick Hahn (August 19, 1920–1997) was a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors for forty years from 1952 to 1992. Prior to his election, Hahn served on the Los Angeles City Council. He was an ardent supporter of civil rights throughout the 1960s, and became greatly respected in the African-American community of Los Angeles. The park was a failed water reservoir and Hahn a city councilman at the time, convinced the mayor to use the land as a park. The area was also used as the site of the first Olympic Village during the 1932 Olympics hosted in Los Angeles.
The Honda Civic Tour ended its two month long trip at the Honda Center on Saturday Night. 8,000 people of all ages showed up to watch, and even a few started waiting in line at 6 in the morning.
Unfortunately, I missed Phantom Planet, but the rest of the bands were very good. Despite some malfunctions, The Hush Sound played a very solid set. Motion City Soundtrack (who, in my opinion, should have headlined), was very good, as always. Panic at the Disco rounded out the show with an hour and fifteen minutes of pleasure for the audience. Here are some pictures from the evening:
