The Arizona schools have a lot to prove to the Pac 10’s best football team. Hell, they have a lot to prove themselves and even more to prove to the selection committee. The Bruins embarrassed both schools last time around. USC was able to beat the Devils while Arizona got a split. The Trojans look to return the favor tonight against the Wildcats (6 p.m. Pacific Time) and UCLA takes on ASU (7:30 p.m. Pacific Time).
After yours truly predicted a game that would hearken back to the glory days of the UCLA vs. Arizona rivalry, the Cats promptly went out and got manhandled in every possible way. It was a roast without any of the affectionate undertones and Arizona had to just sit there and take it. They were on the wrong end of a Jeffrey Ross tapestry of spurns. It’s safe to say they’ll be looking to improve upon their last performance against the Bruins, which should be an easy task. Really all they have to do is put five players with heartbeats on the floor.

I hate to say it, but Los Angeles is not a sports town. Sure, we sell out the stadiums and watch the games on television, but fans? I think not. It’s entertainment. We go to Dodger Stadium and the Staples Center like it’s a movie. I’m not saying there are no fans. Hell, I like to consider myself one of the true Dodger and Laker fans of L.A. But as far as sticking with a team through thick and thin, you can count most of these fair weather fans out. [ Read The Full Story -> ]

Folks, if you weren’t at the Doll Factory last night, you might as well give up, because you missed the single greatest night in sports history.

On Saturday December 8th HBO pay per view will play host to the fight of the year. It will NOT be the fight of the century as some are suggesting, but it will be an awesome evening. Floyd Mayweather Jr and British bad boy Ricky “The Hitman” Hatton, both undefeated fighters, are sure to turn on the fireworks for this one. The fight is going to run you $49.99 for the standard def broadcast and if you need to see it in HD so you can truly catch all the details it’s going to be $59.99. These prices only go for Time Warner PPV because I don’t have satellite and believe it or not Direct TV doesn’t list their PPV prices on the web site. [ Read The Full Story -> ]

Sunday is the last chance for the L.A. Galaxy to secure their position for the playoffs after their tie on Thursday against the New York Red Bulls. The tie does mean they still have a chance, albeit an occurrence of which many are skeptical. David Beckham was back for the game yet, as all those who are realistic assumed, his appearance did not suddenly give us a top notch, all pistons firing Galaxy match.

L.A. Galaxy meet Toronto FC, Saturday 13 October at the Home Depot Center.
Both teams are in need of a win in this match-up. Galaxy (8-13-6) is in just as tight a bind as Toronto (6-16-6) who sit dead last in the Eastern Conference Standings; as Galaxy is just 6 points away from the eighth and final playoff spot and a win on Saturday will put them all the closer. Yet despite Toronto’s 12-game losing streak that began the 4th of July, it ended this past Thursday October 4, and Galaxy better not be betting on taking on an “easy? team.
With or without David Beckham, Galaxy need to put on a show and gather their win, as they sit 2 points away from the team holding their possible playoff spot, the Colorado Rapids. In fact many counted them out (and still do) of the playoffs due to the manner of their play and, as usual, placing too much hope on the elusive and often non-existent Beckham. Maybe the words “we’re in the playoffs? will get his current knee-injury to heal up in time for the first playoff game.

Coming up this weekend in English Premier League …
Saturday:
Saturday, 6 October 2007, is a light match day as Manchester United plays at home against Wigan United. There is a ten-rank difference in the standings between the two teams, plus Manchester has regained two of its most valuable players, Rooney and Ronaldo, the former having just scored the winning goal against Roma on Tuesday in the Champions League. It seems only sensible to agree that Manchester is the favorite for the match.
