Well, technically Hancock cheated. You could buy tickets and see the film July 1st. This will be Will Smith’s FIFTH 4th of July opening weekend (week) In 1997 Men in Black opened to $51.1 million, in 1999, Wild Wild West opened to $27.7, Men in Black II opened to $52.1 and finally Independence day opened to $50.2. Now with SEVEN days to let the numbers add up, we’ll see what kind of ridiculous total he can rack up. If you’re in the mood to see a good film, we got plenty of those for you. The Wackness made huge waves at the LA Film Festival and looks like it’s sure to get you laughing. Kabluey is supposed to be one of the best dark comedies of the year. I’ll let you be the judge. Then we have Diminished Capacity (aka Little Miss Sun Sunshine with a different cast and a mission to exchange an amazing basketball card) which looks like it should be enjoyable. Hell, I’m a sucker for great casts, bonding, and some laughs.
So here it is. Your list for films opening this week with times and ticket, cast and crew information, reviews, and trailers. Enjoy!

Well, it’s another big summer weekend with two VERY different films going head to head. WALL-E an animation about a curious robot and Wanted about a young man (played by James McAvoy) being recruited by a group of insane, bad-ass assassins. Although the odd part it, WALL-E actually has a number of deeper, apocalyptic issues that it deals with and Wanted is more of a fantasy film for adults. For those of you looking for something a bit different you have Gunning for that #1 Spot, which is a story about a kid on his way to becoming the number one basketball player and the challenges he faces in just being an everyday kid. Or you have Finding Amanda, with Matthew Broderick, which is a story about an addict and a hooker both being forced into rehab. Sounds like fun!
So here they your! This weekend’s new releases with cast and crew information, reviews, showtimes and tickets, and trailers! Enjoy!

Well, we got two big comedy films this weekend going head to head, Get Smart and The Love Guru. The question is, is Steve Carrell enough to save Get Smart and is Justin Timberlake in underwear enough to save The Love Guru? We’ll have to see! Personally I’ll stick with the dramas, Kit Kittredge: An American Girl and Brick Lane. Brick Lane is an amazing film, based off the book by Monica Ali, about a Bangladeshi woman finding her real home. Kit Kittredge: An American Girl stars the lovely and talented Abigail Breslin and is sure to be enjoyable for the whole family.

For me, it’s all about Baghead this weekend. I have no clue what it’s really about, but I’m just so happy to see a good trailer for a movie that looks funny, entertaining and possibly event a bit scary. Although, I’m sure what most of you are waiting for is The Incredible Hulk. I personally loved the first one and am still baffled by a need for a second. But the cast looks amazing and I’m sure there will be a lot of smash um up, big, green fun for you to enjoy. As for the The Happening, I love the preview, I want it to be good, but I’m a bit trepidatious. If you’re looking for something more indie, than you got two great options, My Winnipeg about a man trying to escape Winnipeg by making a film about his life or Quid Pro Quo, about people who choose to have limbs chopped up or worse, the choice is yours!

Well you got a lot of over the top movies coming out this week. If you’re looking for a crazy comedy you have You Don’t Mess with the Zohan, The Promotion, or Kung Fu Panda to choose from. Personally they both look a bit…hmm… cheesy? Although personally I find a fat Kung Fu panda kind of funny, you can’t go wrong with John C. Reilly, although the choice if yours. Mongol should have some major kick ass special effects and hopefully a halfway decent plot. If you’re looking something with a lot of good acting and is sure to get you crying then When Did You Last See Your Father? is for you. Here

I’m going to start out with a bold statement. There will be no in between for viewers of the new film, The Foot Fist Way. You will either love it and start quoting it, or hate it and want your money back.Danny Mcbride plays Fred Simmons, an unapologetic and hilariously self absorbed Tae Kwon Do instructor. His days mainly consist of berating his younger students, putting on low quality Martial arts demos, and driving around in his Magnum PI Ferrari. But when his busty blond wife played by Mary Jane Bostic cheats on him not once but twice, his seemingly inpenatrable macho man world is thrown into a downward spiral. His only chance at redemption is to regain the respect of his students by challenging his favorite Hollywood B movie Action star (Chuck The Truck Williams) Ben Best ,to a final Tae Kwon Do showdown.Technically this isn’t a new film. Originally released in 2006 at Sundance, it was deemed a hit with audiences but no big studios decided to back it for wide release. Enter Will Ferrell and Adam McKay with their own company Gary Sanchez Productions. In association with Paramount Vintage, they’re hoping that a wider audience will pick up on what they consider “one of the funniest movies ever.” [ Read The Full Story -> ]

Well you’ve got some pretty good stuff coming out this weekend. Sex and the City: The Movie has made it’s way to the big screen and we’ll see how much the Mr. Big loving, shoe adoring fans can rake up this weekend at the box office, it’s still on the fence whether this film will be a hit or a flop. Will Ferrel and Adam McKay found themselves a little comedy titled, The Foot Fist Way, about a year have decided to take the film, made by three guys who took 4 years to save up $35,000, and throw a ton of money behind it and releases theaters everywhere. Tell me that isn’t a Hollywood fantasy come true? The Strangers is the first, proper horror film we’ve had for a long time. It’s creepy as all hell and actually has plot that makes sense. Who would’ve thought? Savage Grace, is a drama for you mama. If you’re mama’s crazy, has a lot of odd sex, and drives you insane. Looks good! Bigger, Stronger, Faster is film about the steroid use in America. Who is using it, why, and when is it right to use? You might be surprised.

Well, I know what you’ll be going to see this week. The Children of Huang Shi. No way you’ll pass that up for the new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Don’t know I know you well? Yes friends, it’s finally time. Nineteen years since the last one, but it’s finally here. Harrison Ford will be, well Harrison Ford with and Indiana Jones hat on. Don’t get me wrong, I love Indie and I love Harrison Ford, but all I can ever think when I watch him act is that’s f*cking Harrison Ford. For those of you who will be trying to avoid the Indie rush and want something more political, you have Postal or War, Inc.. Although I don’t know if either is really considered political?

Well it is almost seems like an unfair fight. You have The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian which literally had millions upon millions to spend and then you have two great (small) films Reprise and How the Garcia Girls Spent Their Summer. I think Narnia will have will have a tough time going against Iron Man even in it’s third week, although I’ll be interested to see how is battles with Speed Racer. But if you’re looking for something that wasn’t made almost entirely off green-screen you’ve got two great options which I would recommend checking out.
So, here it is, your weekend movie releases with cast and crew information, reviews, showtimes and tickets, and trailers. Enjoy!

Iron Man kicks ass, again. But, the good news for Speed Racer is that it’s ahead of the Cameron/Ashton comedy What Happens in Vegas… although it only crosses that line by $210,000 and would have needed to more than double it’s numbers to catch up with Iron Man. Somehow, Made of Honor is following the top 3, or more likely leading off the rest. Then once again, following the top 4, we have the comedies Baby Mama, Forgetting Sarah Marhsall, and lastly Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay. Lastly, we have The Forbidden Kingdom, Nim’s Island, and Redbelt round off our top 10.
So here it is! Your weekend box office top ten!

I cannot say enough good things about Son of Rambow and it’s Director Garth Jennings. It’s a pleasure to watch from start to end. Everything about it just works and for some reason I can’t quite explain why. It feels as if the filmmakers, the actors and everyone involved put so much heart into it that you can feel it as a viewer. It’s incredibly funny and yet full of purpose.
From first glance this film is a bit tough to categorize, but after seeing it I think I know why. There is no category for it. Any age group, any gender, anybody can really enjoy the film. The film is by no means dark, but by no means light. It simply is an honest and yet imaginary depictions of two kids making a movie. It is at all times walking many fine lines and doing it well.
Normally in a film like this you can smell the plot from a mile away. Although looking back this story did follow the usual arch I never felt the desire to try to jump ahead or figure anything out. The entire movie had so much to enjoy, that I was truly dedicated to each moment.

Why is it so many Europeans are safe and sound, protected legally from genetically modified organisms, carried smoothly by rapid transit to die for, and now able to host the only film better than Al Gore’s on environmental fear and angst? Do we have only one decent environmental film in us? Basil Gelpke and Ray McCormack launched in November 2007 (in rather staid Zurich no less) the ultimate film of conscience on L.A.’s favorite issue—GASOLINE PRICES!
A Crude Awakening, an intensely truthful docudrama, puts it all on us. What we really need to do they taunt and PROVE is charge a lot MORE for gasoline. It seems it’s these Europeans’ (and their California spokespersons in the film from CalTech and Stanford) only way they see to convince us that oil production HAS PEAKED and is in a rapid crash mode. That means the “C” word is all they have left for us—CONSERVATION! Meantime, the film is a sleeper around here, being picked up at this point mostly by organizations, environmentalist groups, colleges, and amazingly, unions, who hope to organize workers to survive the looming crisis in getting and affording transportation to work.
