- Teacher gets 6 years for kiddie porn -Former first-grade teacher, Kenneth Edward Kothe, 61, of Alhambra, was sentenced Monday to six and a half years in prison for possessing child pornography and given 10 years of supervised release after he serves his term. He must also register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Prosecutors said Kothe had at least 114 images and 13 video files of child porn on his home computer’s external hard drive, two bins filled with other pornographic images of underage youth, and four ounces of marijuana.
- Police arrest driver who killed two people during police chase - Police have arrested the driver, Sergio Delgado, 29, who allegedly struck and killed two pedestrians Sunday night on Hollywood Boulevard. Police are still trying to identify the dead. Delgado was being pursued on a reckless driving charge when he struck the pedestrians at about 8:45 p.m. The pedestrians — a man in his 40s and woman in her 30s — were pronounced dead at the scene. It is not known whether or not the victims knew one another. Herrall, an artist, said the car was weaving in and out of traffic and that the pedestrians probably didn’t see it coming toward them. Herrall said the car struck both pedestrians and then ran over the woman’s torso and legs. He said the man lay in the street as other cars ran over him.

- Decomposed body found off 110 freeway - A decomposed body of a man was found at an off-ramp near Dodger Stadium on the 110 Freeway, after a Caltrans worker who was clearing brush discovered the body Saturday morning. Detectives are investigating the incident and no further information has been released.
- Gang-related killing in Anaheim being investigated - The 20-year-old victim, his brother and friend were walking in the 1400 block of South Euclid Street on Friday night when four attackers got out of a vehicle, confronted the victim and began an argument. One of the attackers pulled out a handgun and shot the victim. He was taken to UCI Medical Center and died. It was unclear if the other men were shot.
- Woman clubbed in head by attacker - A Canyon Country woman was clubbed in the head in a gated community on Vista Point Lane on Friday night by two men, one of who wore a law-enforcement-style uniform. The woman apparently let the men inside, said sheriff’s Lt. Andrew Rosso of the Santa Clarita station. Both are believed to be Latinos in their 30s or 40s.

- Long Beach man sentenced to 26 years to life for stove death - Cole Allen Wilkins, 32, was sentenced to 26 years to life in prison, in the death of David Piquette, a 10-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department in Corona. Piquette was killed when he was crushed by a cement truck on the 91 Freeway after he swerved to avoid a stove that had fallen from Wilkins truck after he had stolen it. Prosecutors stated that the charge was appropriate because Wilkins was in the process of committing a felony. According to prosecutors, Wilkins did not stop until a motorist flashed his lights and honked his horn. Later he gave the man a fake name and two fake telephone numbers and did not produce a driver’s license or registration for the truck.
- Firefighters report one death in fire - Firefighters say at least one person, who was not a firefighter, has been found dead after a wildfire swept through an area near the Northern California town of Concow. Fire officials estimate about 320 fires were still burning in the state this week, including a complex of blazes in Butte County that has forced some 10,000 residents of the town of Paradise to flee. More than 320 active fires are burning around the state. A total of about 1,700 blazes have been sparked this season, destroying about 100 homes.

- Deputy busted with DUI while on duty - An LA County on duty deputy has been arrested for driving under the influence and possibly causing a near deadly collision. Deputy Robert Moran ran a red light in Garden Grove the morning of June 29 and struck another vehicle. Its driver, 37-year-old Elias Aldana, suffered life threatening injuries. Its passenger and Moran also were taken to a hospital. Amormino says a Garden Grove police officer at the crash scene detected alcohol on Moran’s breath. The 18-year-veteran was arrested, booked, and then released on bail, pending the outcome of a criminal investigation.
- Three car crash injures 2 and kills 1 - One person died and two others were injured today in a three-vehicle crash in Rosemead. The crash happened at N. Rosemead Blvd near the 10 Freeway at about 7:30 a.m.. Paramedics pronounced one person dead at the scene and two other injured people were taken to hospitals.

- Burnt body found in dumpster in Norwalk - A man’s burned body was discovered inside a dumpster in Norwalk today at the 14400 block of Corby Ave near Lindale St. Firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the flames, where they discovered the body inside the Dumpster. “Anytime there is a dead body found, especially dumped and set on fire, there are going to be strong suspicions of foul play.” The victim has not be identified yet.
- 25-year-old man fatally shot in car - Joshua Ford, a 25-year-old handyman was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon while sitting inside his car in Compton. The man, identified by his family, was in a parked car outside his home in the 1400 block of North Rose Avenue when a silver Mercedes-Benz pulled up next to him and a passenger got out, approached Ford, and shot him multiple times. The gunman then got back into the Mercedes, which was driven by a woman, and sped off heading east. The shooting took place shortly after 3:30 p.m. Ford was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
- Man and officer killed in car crash - Two people, including off-duty Los Angeles County Police Lt. Gilbert Valderrama, 55, were killed in a crash involving two vehicles, on the 60 Freeway. Allegedly Valderrama’s SUV slammed into a disabled minivan at approximately 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, ejecting him out of the car and killing an 18-year-old who had gotten out of the stalled van. Porter says Valderrama and the teen were pronounced dead at the scene.

- 5-year-old killed after being buried alive in the sand - 24-year-old Juan Francisco Nunez is in custody for allegedly burying a 5-year-old boy alive at the beach, which resulted in the child’s death. The boy had been playing with friends and family at Pismo State Beach early Friday. Nunez allegedly, buried the young boy in the sand up to his neck and then covered his face in sand. The boy chocked on the sand and was transported by ambulance to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital where he died soon after.
- Inmates sue for contracting Hepatitis C from prison - A group of California prisoners infected with hepatitis C say they are suing the state because they aren’t getting proper medical treatment. A lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court seeks class action status saying that as many as 40 percent of the state’s 190,000 inmates are infected and many report difficulty getting adequate care. Lead plaintiff Kevin Jackson is an inmate at the California State Prison at Solano and he says despite a 2007 diagnosis of an advanced stage of the disease, he was repeatedly refused treatment.

- Driver killed in 210 freeway crash -This morning at around 7:50 am a motorist died when a car collided with a parked trailer on the 210 freeway. The driver of the big-rig said he stopped on the shoulder and had detached the trailer and was sitting in the truck, waiting for help, when he saw in his rearview mirror a silver Mazda 3 veer onto the shoulder and crash into the trailer. It is unclear what caused the crash but apparently the car went “all the way underneath” the trailer. The unidentified man was declared dead at the scene.
- Father of kidnapped boy died in car crash - Lonnie Ramos, the 46 year-old man who is accused of abducting his 9-year-old son after shooting his ex-wife in the face during a custody exchange has died in an car crash in Juarez, Mexico. Details of the crash are still pending. The news comes after the boy, Ryan Ramos, was found Sunday alone in a Mormon Church in Juarez.

- Man who beat his own toddler to death was not on drugs -Toxicology tests show that Sergio Aguiar, 27, the Turlock man who savagely beat and stomped his 2-year-old son to death on the side of the road last month was not using drugs.The Stanislaus County coroner said that he didn’t have any drugs or alcohol in his system that might have explained his behavior. Aguiar was fatally shot by police on June 14 after ignoring repeated orders to stop attacking the child. The boy died from injuries to his head and face.
- Hit and run driver leaves passenger dead - A hit-and-run driver fled the scene of an accident in South LA leaving his passenger dead in the back seat of his Acura Integra. The accident happened around 2am when the Acrua drivers hit a stopped vehicle in the left turn lane at Normandie Avenue. Following that collision, the Acura sped away southbound, reportedly at speeds of 70 to 80 miles and out of control, before hitting a truck parked at the west curb at Normandie Avenue and 36th Place.

- Man shot and killed in Inglewood -The fatally shot by Inglewood police Tuesday night has been identified at Ruben Walton Ortega, a 23 year-old from Inglewood. He was shot and killed in an alley behind the 11100 block of Crenshaw Blvd. at about 6:20 p.m. Police said Ortega was a documented gang member of the Inglewood Family. Two officers with a uniformed gang task force received a call that men were loitering, when they arrived two men, one identified as Ortega, ran south into an alley while discarding cash and drugs. Ortega confronted an officer, refused to show his hands and kept his left hand concealed in his waistband. The officer, believing Ortega was armed, shot him.
- Mummified body found in home - The coroner’s office is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man whose mummified body was discovered in an abandoned house in Beverly Hills last week. The body was found by some kids skateboarding past that noticed a foul smell. Coroner’s detectives do not believe foul play was involved. They estimate the man was dead for roughly a year. The body was curled in a fetal position and appeared mummified. Based on an assortment of old bags and an old bicycle near the body, officers determined that the deceased was a homeless white man in his 40s or 50s.The cause of his death has not been determined.

- Mother and daughter use beer to ward off sex offender - Linda Dodson, 45, and her 77-year old mother were able to save themselves with beer. A convicted sex offender broke into the house, attacked Linda in her bed “He had his big hands … on my throat, my mouth and my nose and I’m flopping and I’m thinking oh my God, I’m being murdered right now and I don’t know why.” The mother tried to help but was thrown to the floor. The mother smelled alcohol on his breath and offered him some beer, he said yes. While drinking the daughter said she was going to use the bathroom but instead called the cops. Louie Herrera, a convicted child molester from Norwalk, was arrested. The women were not badly hurt.
- Man in Reseda kidnapped and help for ransom- Seven men and a woman, whose names have not been released, were in custody Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping a man and holding him for ransom in a Reseda home. During the raid, police located the victim in the home’s cluttered garage, as the captors threated to kill him. The 24-year-old Latino had one eye swollen shut and cuts and bruises covering his face, but was listed in stable condition at a hospital. “We got a phone call that said ‘Enough’s enough, we’re gonna kill the guy,’” Gannon told the Daily News. “They threatened to cut his fingers off at one point to show they weren’t fooling around.” Gannon said investigators did not know why the victim was targeted, but that detectives were working through the night to figure out the motive.

- Two men charged in Nasa quadruple killing spree - 39-year-old Jae Hwan Shim and 27-year-old Steve Kwon have been charged with murdering a NASA engineer and three others at an Antelope Valley home. LA County prosecutors filed charges Tuesday against the two men who were arrested Saturday in Arizona near the Mexican border. The district attorney’s office alleges Shim threatened to kill his ex-wife. The bodies of the woman, her two children and her cousin’s husband, the NASA engineer, were found in a burned Quartz Hill home on June 23.
- Truck accident sparks brush fire - A truck accident sparked a brush fire on the northbound 14 Freeway Tuesday. All but one lane of traffic was closed. The fire started on one of the vehicle’s rear tires and sent thick plumes of black smoke into the air. The flames engulfed the truck and spread briefly to nearby brush. Fire crews prevented the fire from spreading. There were no reports of any injuries.

- Three killed in Winchester hit and run - Authorities are looking for the driver of a pick-up truck suspected in a hit-and-run collision Sunday that killed Andres Sanagustin, 48, his wife, Maribeth, 36, and their 4-year-old son, Angelo. The family was heading north on Warren Rd when their 1999 Chevrolet Malibu was struck head-on by a pick-up truck shortly after 8 p.m.. The driver of the 2007 GMC 2500 truck had crossed over the double yellow lines and struck the car. Sanagustin and his wife were pronounced dead at the scene and their son was taken to Rancho Springs Medical Center and died a short time later. Witnesses said the suspect abandoned his car and fled in another vehicle with another driver.
- Toddler killed by drunk driver - A young girl, less than two years old, was killed and her mother, father and year-old brother seriously injured when suspected drunk driver, Jesse Rolando Astorga, 27, struck the family Sunday afternoon in Rialto. Astorga, has been charged with murder. Astorga was fleeing the scene of a nearby hit-and-run crash when he lost control of his SUV, which jumped the sidewalk and hit the victims. The girl was pronounced dead at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton less than an hour after the accident. Her parents, William Dean Dinoso, 28, and Glenda Brooks, 26, and her brother were hospitalized with broken bones and internal injuries.
