Baseball News: Jones Goes Blue

December 7th, 2007 Written by: Jose Sanchez · No Comments

andrew jonesTalk about an ace up his sleeve, Dodger general manager Ned Colletti has recently acquired, slugger, and 10 time gold glove winner, Andrew Jones. They paid big, $36.2 million for two years, making it the biggest Dodger contract in history. L.A. Times reported that he was asking more than the Dodgers were willing to offer, but the news on Colletti quieted the noise with another big move.

Only weeks after he signs former Yankee head coach Joe Torre. This decision solves several of the Dodgers problems, the first being the absence of a true power hitter. Jones averages 34 homers every 162 games. He once hit 51 in a season and has 368 in his career. He turns 31 on April 23 and has played at least 153 games in all 11 seasons in the majors. Hopefully the Dodger injury streak won’t affect what has been a dream career. [ Read The Full Story -> ]

BIG 12’s BEST VISITS GALEN CENTER: KANSAS WINS CLOSE ONE AGAINST SOUTHERN CAL

December 4th, 2007 Written by: Bryan · 1 Comment

USC Trojans BasketballIn the first of two tough back to back games for the Trojans (they play Memphis tonight), they played well, but their inexperience showed toward the end of the game. Kansas made all the big plays down the stretch and that proved to be the difference. Mario Chalmers, a native Alaskan, hit a 25 foot, 3 pointer with about 20 seconds left to play, which put them up 5 and sealed the game for KU. [ Read The Full Story -> ]

Laker Report: Minor Moves Make the Difference

November 26th, 2007 Written by: Jose Sanchez · No Comments

kobeAfter surprising the league with their promising start, 7-3, the Lakers have now fallen to 7-6 with their tough loss last night at the Staples Center, their third in a row. The Lakers led the Nets almost the entire game, then lost their lead in the 4th quarter. Down by 12, the Lakers rallied back and took the lead, with amazing play by Kobe Bryant. He was cold since scoring big in the first quarter, then started draining 3’s from deep. They took the lead again but Kidd and company were too much in the end, and won by two points.

Sure, 7-6 is not a great record. And though they are where most thought they would be, they should be pleased with their position, both in the standings, and as a molding ball club. They beat Phoenix, Utah, Houston, and Detroit and have had great production off the bench. And though Kobe is averaging over 27 points, he is carrying less weight, and trusting his team more. Sport Report: Chris Kaman Island

November 24th, 2007 Written by: Bryan · 3 Comments

Chris Kaman Island Making His Presence Felt Throughout the LeagueThanksgiving has come and gone, but its never too late to be thankful. I would like to implore the people of Los Angeles to be grateful for a man who is putting up all-star caliber numbers for the Los Angeles Clippers. The fact that this man happens to be a 7 foot unfrozen caveman lawyer of a beast is just an added bonus and further reason to shower him with your affections in this city of superficiality. One man stands alone on an island and carries the weight of a franchise on his pale but capable shoulders. That man is Chris Kaman or as I’m calling him now, Chris Kaman Island.

With, Elton Brand and Shaun Livingston out with injuries, that pretty much leaves the Clippers with an abominable snowman (Chris Kaman Island) and a motor mouth alien (Sam Cassell). Unfortunately, the bulk of the load is on Kaman, and that’s just for the Clippers to remain mediocre. Fortunately it seems Kaman is up to the task. So here’s to mediocrity and here’s to Chris Kaman. Let’s lay out the statistics through the first 12 games and do some comparisons. [ Read The Full Story -> ]

17&0, I Say No: An Un-perfect Season for New England

November 16th, 2007 Written by: Jeff Barrick · No Comments

Patriots winning Super Bowl

As we head into week eleven in the National Football League I’m struck by the fact a team is still undefeated. This team has destroyed all comers including my Indianapolis Colts, making believers of the majority of sports writers and fans across America. By “believers” I refer to the opinion many carry that this 2007 season will witness a feat not achieved since 1972, a perfect NFL record.

I’d like to begin by saying I am NOT a believer. I know what most people will say, “It’s because you hate the Patriots.” That is partially it, but not the entire pie.

If These Balls Could Talk- LA Lakers Report

November 14th, 2007 Written by: Bryan · 2 Comments

basketballAs some people have recently pointed out, the last thing we need is another Kobe article. But is it really? Is it? I mean I have Britney, Paris, Lindsay, Fall Out Boy, and any one of the Kardashians all ranked ahead which makes me think there is room for more Kobe articles. Which actually makes me think we NEED more Kobe articles. So with that, let’s discuss.
