25 Degrees

The hunt for the best burger in Los Angeles is ON! Our first contestant in this category is the very sexy 25 Degrees. Located on the ground floor of the über-hip Roosevelt Hotel, this “bordello meets burger bar” serves up burgers starting at $12. That might seem like an awfully steep price, but trust me: it’s worth it.

I discovered the place by accident, having googled “organic burgers hollywood”, it was incorrectly reviewed as serving up organic chuck (it doesn’t). What we did find instead was something of a gourmet burger served in typical Hollywood style: lush, deep red velvet walls, deep leather booths and waitstaff sporting Ed Hardy T-shirts.

I was destined to fall in love with the place. The cheese selection for the burgers alone is enough to get you there (burrata on a burger? Isn’t that a felony? Or maybe the best idea ever!). And these guys don’t dick around: they only offer about 3 non-burger choices (none of which I can recommend - after all, you don’t go to a sushi place and ask for kung pao chicken).

And if the burgers aren’t enough of an incentive (served on their firm yet fluffy buns), they serve The Best Onion Rings In The World™. No, really. They don’t even batter them until you order them, and they’re served piping hot, as fresh as if you made them yourself (only tastier and with less mess). And don’t forget the absurdly wonderful list of topping choices: prosciutto, caramelized onions, sauerkraut… Need I go on?

So I’m throwing down the gauntlet: Father’s Office? What do parents know? Nothing. Howards Famous Bacon and Avocado Burger? Pshaw. More like Howards Puke and Rusty Nails. In-N-Out? More like Down-N-Out-Burgers-For-People-That-Suck. The Apple Pan? More like The Bed Pan. I challenge you ALL to head on over to (the now conveniently open 24/7) 25 Degrees. Tell’em Louis sent ya*.

*Not really. They have no idea who I am.

P.S. The farm house cheddar is what God himself eats on his burger. I kid you not. I didn’t know cheddar could actually taste like that.
